Re: driver won't work

Are you saying the bios detects the drive, but when you go to My Computer you cant see the drive listed? If so, Right click on My computer and in the menu select 'manage', In the Computer management window select removable media and activate the drive. It will then show in My computer, and be able to read/write cd's/dvd/s. If this does NOT work, then update the firmware for the drive. A lot of times when you buy a new drive, the firmware on it is out of date and the manufacturer has a new firmware out for it to fix computability issues with the collage of hardware thats out there.

I have a toshiba l355d and it is not showing that the dvd drive is even connected to the computer. Even in device manager. I have tried taking the dvd player out, cleaned connections and it does the

You have done all thing I would have suggested and if the BIOS does not detect this DVD drive then it is faulty and needs to be replaced.
If the BIOS detects the DVD drive then the DVD driver needs re-installing.
You can download the DVD and device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page. Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers. Please click on this link: -

When I try to burn a laber I get a message that the lightscribe drive is not recognized (520) the disc

Try reading a disc from it. If that won't work, your drive is dead. Try upgrading your drivers, or upgrading the lightscribe software.

Computer will not recognize external cd rom drive

Use the following link, scroll a little and click on Fix It

Click Run in the File Download dialog box and follow the steps in the wizard

When completed restart the computer and check the CD/DVD drive

(you may need to run Fix It twice)

If it fails, there is a manual method to edit the registry. Let me know so that I can follow up further.

They must have meant motherboard drive connector. s the connector that the drive attaches to. Which the connector itself should not need drivers. It should not be the connector either, especially since the error coming back is software, not hardware.

Check this..

Before they try to sell you a new motheboard.

Will not burn any dvds

Try upgrading the firmware.

2.) Try the drive on another computer to see if it works.

3.) if it does you might need to Format and Reinstall on your computer.

but it does sound as if the problem is with your drive rather than your pc if you got warrenty i'd suggest you take it back if not then try it on anoter computer to ensure its the drive before getting a new one
