Every time I boot up my pc the date and time is wrong. I'm beginning to think it stops at the time and day I sign off.

tHANX. i DON'T GET ANY WARNING MESSAGE. pERHAPS i'VE NOT GOT THE pOWER THINGY SET UP

  • roger harris Apr 23, 2009

Before coming on FixYa, I tried to synchronise my date time in the internet Time tab but it always fails. This is why I wonder if it is some bug and not the battery.

    Why would the update fail?

Hi,
Coin-shaped batteries on most motherboards should be CR2032. Make sure it is properly installed and + is up. IF you have a multimeter or you have a friend who has a multimeter, remove the battery and check the voltage. It should read 3.0 volts when fully charged. If it reads 1.8 volts or higher is probably OK. Be very careful installing and removing coin-shaped batteries. Most of the battery holders i have seen for these batteries are quite fragile and easily broken. I ease these batteries into the holder with the aid of "tweaker" (small screw driver).

here is a video, you can see how to remove the battery or bypass bios password.

The battery is located on the system board, which is the main large circuit board inside your computer.

If you remove the side panel you should spot the battery relatively easily. It is a small flat-cell battery resembling a coin. A Radio-Shack or Electronics store should have them.

It is also possible, but not very probable, that your automatic time server is no longer functional.

To check this simply:
Double Left-Click on the Clock in the right-bottom corner on the taskbar.

Click the "Internet Time" Tab

Click the Update Now button.

If this is the case you can switch to another listed time server, though I am almost fully certain it is the battery.

Take care.

If this information has been helpful, please take a moment to rate the solution. Thank you.

The only reason this update would fail is if the service or any services it depended upon failed to start. Services are applications that run in the background of Windows which allow for advanced tasks such as communication etc.

While it is possible to inspect this, it depends on your configuration of Windows. The easiest way is this:

Start > Run > "services.msc" with out the quotes of course.

Be very careful about what you shut off in here, as you can cause some serious connectivity issues.
Right click on Windows Time and select stop.
And then Start it again manually with the same method. Let us know if you receive any errors.

What was the result of checking the service?
Did you receive any errors when manually starting the Windows Time service?

    Thank you.

Hi,
Every PC motherboard has a battery. That battery serves two purposes: to feed the configuration memory (also called CMOS) and to feed the real time clock of the computer (the one that show the date and the time).
An indication it is time to change the motherboard battery is receiving one of the following error messages when you turn on your computer: CMOS CHECKSUM FAILURE, CMOS BATTERY STATE LOW, CMOS SYSTEM OPTIONS NOT SET and CMOS TIME AND DATE NOT SET. Another indicator of a low battery is a clock that, after being set, runs well while the computer is on, but shows the wrong time when the computer is turned on the following day (it is late).

Battery is located on the motherboard.

Time and date

If you fixed the Date and Time in the BIOS and when you boot up the laptop next time the Date and Time is wrong, then most like the BIOS battery is flat and needs replacing.
After the BIOS battery has been replaced go to the Bios and set the Date and Time.

Laptop date and time setting get disturbed automatically when i reboot my laptop

When you boot up and the Date & Time is wrong then you correct the Date & Time, then when you shut down and boot up again the Date and Time has changed. This is an indication that the BIOS battery is flat and you need to replace the BIOS battery. Install a new BIOS battery, go into the BIOS setting and set the Date & Time etc. and the new battery will keep your settings stored in the BIOS.

Please run setup invalid configuration information

If this error message comes up when you boot up the computer, it means the BIOS requires configuration, usually the Time and Date is wrong.
If this occurs every time you boot up your computer and have changed the Date and Time then this could be caused by a flat BIOS battery.
If so, replace the BIOS battery and then configure the Date and Time and you won't get this error again.

Soon as it start up its says RTC mode fixed- Time and date may be wrong. then its says time-of-day clocked stopped and it want let me go anywhere from there.

When you get this message you need to go to the BIOS configuration to change the date and time setting.
If this happens again when you boot up later, then the BIOS battery is flat and needs to be replaced because it cannot save and retain the BIOS settings.

I followed your instructions and replaced the digitizer. My screen has been on and is still on with the wrong date and time. Do you think it just needs to charge with the new digitizer to begin working? ...

okay for the time and date hun you need to set it to the region where you are . suppose you in the UK and yr gadget is set parameters for USA the time and dates and the @ sign will all be wrong
so go to start- control panel- pick a category- choose date, time, language and regional options click regionaland language options button check if under the regional option - it says {NAME OF THE COUNTRY YOU ARE IN. if not then change it simply by clicking the drop down menu. then click ok- dont mess with the lil numbers yu see inside that panel-even if the region is ok you need to juss try the top instructions.
sometimes restarting the whole pc helps
good luck xxx
