D link airplus G Wireless range extender

posted by nascar29 on Sep 24, 2007

I purchased a D link wireles ranger extender model DWL 710 G but I cannot get it to work.
The unit powers up fine and I seem to be able to connect to it as a wireless network using a linksys card in my laptop BUT. It appears that it never connects or talk to my Linksys wireless router. I connected directly to it using an ethernet cable and have tried to ping the default I.P address but get no response. I have reset the unit using the reset button on the back several time but still get nothing. The unit does appear to be transmitting as it shows up as a wireless network. Also, I am in the country and have no security or anything turned on in my network. It is running wide open. As I read all the info I belive this unit should connect on its own and talk fine.
Any insight would be appreciated.

Already tried that one. Does not seem to make any difference. Sorry I did not mention it originally

Try using a crossover cable, this is special ethernet cable where the internal wires cross, this is needed for router to router or computer to computer.
These can be purchased at any electronics store, or if you have an extra cable follow this link for a how to make one yourself.

You have to change your computer IP address to the same domain as the range extender i.e. if your range extendr's IP is 192.168.0.31, try setting your computer's IP to 192.16.0.xx where xx is between 0 and 255.
Cheers,

you should first configure your repeater to actually find and repeat your wireless router's signal. Then you should be able to connect to the internet
