Question about Compaq Presario 5000 PC Desktop
Owner lost restore disk. I ordered one from restoredisk.com. The disk will not load, it flashes the percent bars on the bottom of the screen then says to contact compaq support (a waste of time as those assholes won't support anything except a new system.) and gives a fault of 50: 4 (I believe), then a blue screen that says working. I am on my 2nd set of restore disks and have had the same results on 2 computers both times. Help!!!!!
Just buy microsoft windows xp home or professional and re-install the software.

you need to format the whole hard drive as it's the hidden restore partition that is giving you problems, but you may not be able to format it using the XP cd or restore disk. You may have to use the old FDISK as this may be the only way to restore the hidden partition. You will need a boot disk, see below link for win98 as this is what you will need to fdisk, then follow instructions on bottom link, as it's too long to type in here. http://www.bootdisk.com/ http://www.pcanswers.co.uk/tutorials/default.asp?siteid=8§iontypeid=7&subsectionid=606&pagetypeid=2&articleid=6046&page=2
