HP a1610n BIOS gone

MY hp started off with numerous rootkits and a hell of a virus problem. after attempting to sort all the viruses out of my regestry, my computer reset and all i get is "Check signal cable". I assumed the worst had happened and replaced the harddrive, and after that the processer and replaced the fried onboard video with a card but stil nothing. the only thing left to replace is the motherboard itsself and ram sticks. any suggestions?

I tried three different working monitors, two different video cards. The monitors do react when the hard drive is removed by going into power save so there is somewhat of a connection.

before this occured, the virus had disabled me to get into safe mode and had started messing with the keyboard drivers then booted down my computer in DOS. i swapped out the harddrive but is it possible the virus could have damaged more than the hard drive?

i replaced the harddrive but im getting the same problem, i went as far as getting a new processer as well and still blank screen. its obviously a hardware problem but now i found the virus fried my onboard video. i have another video card but i cant install drivers for it because video is fried. this looks like the end of my computer unless there is a plug and play type video card that does not require any drivers or if possable, my harddrive has the drivers manually inserted with another computer by hooking it up as an external.. eather seems unlikly because im shure the registry has to be modified for the card to work

The check signal cable is for the video input/output..since it is a desktop swap out the monitor with one you know works. If it works then you know its the monitor, if not then it is the video card...that should take care of it..

Wow you got a nasty one...standard procedure for one that bad is to wipe the hard drive with a Hard Disk cleaner software and then reload the operating system..should be ok then..if not then it is probably not a virus but a hardware problem..virus goes away when all programs are wiped out...

I have an HP Media Center PC m7330n. It recently was infected with a host of viruses and rootkits. I eliminated all the viruses and rootkits with a battery of anti-virus programs. Everything works as...

Hi there,

You might want to try to go to the device manager and go to the Universal Serial Bus controllers

Try to uninstall everything and restart the computer.

See if that will let the computer recognise the USB ports.

If that does not work, you might want to reinstall the chipset drivers of your motherboard.

Hope this works for you.

Unable to update microsoft, add/remove also do not have CD which came with it Think I may have a virus only using Avast anti virus

if you really think that computer is infected with virus, you will need to reinstall the OS itself just to make sure that everything will be fine, but you will need to have the OS disc for that

I have an hp pavilion zd8000 when i turn on my laptop the bootmenu will come on then the screen will go blank right befor windows start loading. what do i need to do to fix this problem?

Your ROM BIOS is asking you where to find bootable media, and when you tell it the HDD (hard disk dive), the ROM BIOS can't find a bootable partition on it and just quits, leaving the screen blank.

So, either your HDD is no longer connected to the system bus (was the laptop dropped recently?), or
someone (or something - aka virus/worm/trojan/malware/rootkit, etc.) has erased your bootable
OS (operating system) from the hard drive.

Fix: boot from a "Recovery CD" and use the utilities thereon to repair your OS (or at least find what's left of it), and try to reboot.
Failing that, run any/all diagnostics that your ROM BIOS has - especially memory tests and HDD diagnostics. Why?
(a) bad/jarred loose memory (RAM cards) will prevent booting
(b) an HDD that fails low-level diagnostics may never be salvageable and may have to be replaced -
it actually may have had a head crash - which tends to happen when a ZD8000 notebook is
dropped while the system is running - or a head can crash for no apparent reason.

If you can get the system to boot to SAFE mode - run sfc (system file check) as your first attempt
to repair the operating system - its already in Widows, here's how to run it:

START > run > sfc

As soon as you can get beyond safe mode, update your favorite anti-virus package database and
run one (or more ) deep scans, until the last scan that ran to completion found nothing.

If you have a softwre fire wall or other anti-virus programs running now ... that could be the trouble. You are logged on as an administrative user, correct?

Perhaps you should reinstall the Sonic stuff, in case it was affected since the virus cleanup.  If the OS had some of its components quarantined from virus contamination, you are probably stuck reinstalling the OS...though of course you can search the web (and not least Microsoft.com if that's the sort of OS you use) for healing 'media detection' issues (w.r.t. your particular OS.)

I have an HP mini notebook will not connect.

No problem at all.
Some files of System32 which are important operating system files might have got corrupted.
Take a back-up of all the critical data saved on the computer
Format the whole computer or just format the drive that contains the Windows installed.
Re-install the Windows using the Recovery disc provided by HP.
Immediately install a good combo software including anti-virus, firewall, anti-spyware, anti-rootkit.
Copy back all the saved data. after scanning thoroughly

This is sure to help

Cannot Scan - Getting an Error

You almost certainly have a virus.. these problems are usually caused by 'rootkit' virus. .these are virus's that your standard virus S/W can't see..

Download 'Unhackme' (google it) and install it.. Unhackme will get the virus BEFORE Windows loads.. it needs to be trained.. so follow the simple instructions as it can't alwyas tell the difference between a legit file and a dud.. it will fix your problem and make your system go faster too!

If you use the recovery disc provided by the manufacturer, it will re-install OS, drivers also the pre-installed softwares which comes along when youget a new computer. make sure u backup the data first. The recover disc is like a ghost or image copy. This should work. Everything would be loaded in the recovery disc.

Download HiJack This. Yes it will download but you may have to click on Cached Page or risk a redirect. Run HiJack This (as an administrator in Vista) scan only and check-off all boxes for entries starting with 017 - HKLM then click fix. Run it again to make sure they're gone. Now download Avenger and unzip to your desktop. Run Avenger, leave the script box empty and check both Scan for Rootkit & Disable Rootkits found. Click Execute. Your computer will reboot and you'll see a log of what happened. DONE. download all your definitions and run all the **** you want.
