Question about Eureka 1934 Bagged Upright Vacuum

1 Answer

Motor running extremely hot

Whenever running my Eureka, the motor starts making a grinding noise and running hot. The vacuum is only a little over a year old but can the motors burn out on these that fast? The vacuum has not been clogged or overheated. Please let me know if you have experienced anything similar.

Re: Motor running extremely hot

You might want to check the brushroll. It may need to be replaced. The brushroll end caps on your model should come off easily and if there is a collection of hair, etc under them and you can clean it out, do so. If it is impossible to clean out, you must replace the brush. You can get one at any Eureka/Sanitaire dealer or warranty station. If you have a model 1934, you can upgrade to a better metal brushroll which won't give you as much trouble.

If it has an internal sensor that shut the motor off when it got hot the motor will come on after it has cooled down.

Brush is not rolling. I have checked the belts

Unhook the belt see if the motor shaft turns by itself. If it doesn't then the motor is the issue. If it runs then its probably the belt or the brush roll.

Eureka 5841 upright vacuum cleaner quits running, it takes a very long time before it will start again

The motor is running hot and causing a emergency shutdown. It is either clogged somewere or the motor is bad check for cloggs first then if none are present you will have to replace the motor. Depending on the original price of the machine if the motor is bad you may be better off buying a new machine.

Vauum and loud noise

Euther you have a clogged hose or the dirt inlet by the brush roll is clogged, or the motor is bad, But if you have only used it 4 times, and you bought it new, it should have a years warranty on it. Take it to a warranty shop to have it repaired under warranty.

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).

Bad Motor

That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt has stretched and needs to replaced. If electrical, then something is causing the motor to run hot, like a clogged filter, or it could be a motor going bad.

Eureka Model 4351 vacuum - motor runs but no sction.

On my vacuum the "vacuum fan" (my name for the part which creats the suction) broke off the motor shaft. The vacuum sounded like it was working, but there was no suction. If you are sure there are no clogs (drop a marble down any hoses you can't see through), then this is the likely cause.

remove belt to brush roll and see if noise persists. if it stops, you probably need a brush roll. at least doing this will narrow down the fault area
