Can not clear F21 code even after doing all steps in book

The Whirlpool washer error code F21 means the washing machine has a "water draining issue", meaning the drain pump itself, or the drain hose is clogged and the washer is having problems draining the water out. In other words, the washer is taking too long to drain the water out of the tub.

Hmmm ok the F21 code also means long drain time and the recommended fix is to clean the pump filter...if ya clear that code by pressing the PAUSE/CANCEL button two time and the F21 code returns the next step would be to replace the pump since it probably is running slower that its suppose to most likely because of a weak motor on the pump

Possible causes/procedure:
1. Check the touch-pad/LED assembly by selecting different
cycles and changing the modifiers and options available to
confirm the touch-pad/LED is responding.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check wire harness connections to the
touch-pad/LED assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU).

Also check for the following issues

1. Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked.
2. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
3. Check the electrical connections at the pump and make sure the pump is running.
4. Check the drain pump filter for foreign objects.
5. Plug in washer or reconnect power.
6. If the above does not correct the problem, go to step 7.
7. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
8. Replace the pump.

Hi, this advice is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet model FRONT LOADERS displaying the “F21” error code.

“F21” is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a “SUDS” error may also be displayed. This may be an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

1. First, attempt to unplug the washer for at LEAST 30 minutes to reset the Central Control Unit (CCU). Sometimes this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches with the unit. If the error code returns, proceed to step 2.
2. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
3. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
4. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

this is what Whirlpool says, but we have found that this doesnt always work.

What this usually means is that you have something clogged in the drain pump and it needs to be cleaned out. In the majority of the cases, this corrects the problem. However, if you JUST purchased this washer, and it is brand new (not used), I would recommend you use your manufacturer warranty (good for the 1st year in most cases) to avoid the risk of voiding it. The conditions of some warranties, prohibit the consumer from opening the appliance and attempting any repairs. Read the find print just to be sure.
