Question about KLH ASW10-120 Subwoofer

1 Answer

Powered Subwoofer hits hard even on dialogue.

I have a great powered subwoofer. The only problem is it hits at almost every sound... for instance listening to the news, people talking on the radio... etc.

This sub doesn't have a gate (keep the sub from engaging when the source level is low) so it'll "hit" for any input signal. What it does have is an adjustable frequency low-pass filter. If it's kicking in for sounds that don't need big bass reinforcement, try turning the filter to a lower number. The sub will then only kick in for really deep sounds.

Klh powered subwoofer model ASW10-120B... when you plug in to power... it makes a loud buzzing/humming noise

I would check the caps on the power supply. They are rather large electrolytic capacitors that will look like they burst and/or leaking. When these die, the caps ground and the sub will make a loud buzzing sound. If you are handy with a soldering iron you can replace them yourself. Replace them with the same voltage or a little bigger and same with the size.

If the cap. says 16v 4700pF on it, for example, a 20v 5300pF or a 16v 6200mF cap. will work for this application.

Powered subwoofer amp repair? On and off works fine.. very weak signal to sub. All wires checked and working fine.

For starters, it is a home theater in a box. With that being said, highly consider upgrading before spending more money on the system. If thats not even an option, have you tried adjusting the level of signal being sent from the receiver out to the sub? It sounds stupid, but this is often over looked and can sometimes be tricky depending upon the type of receiver you are using, to adjust the level being sent to the sub... Typically when a subwoofer has little to no sound, this is the issue. Also, is the sub powered (does it have its own amplification using a power cord that plugs into an electrical outlet? If so, does it have a volume knob on the back, and does it respond when turning the knob? If its not powered, than your problem is what I described above, unless you've already done that. If that is the case, your speaker is fried... Hope this helps

They speakers, when they hit hard they make this odd... smacking sound.. Also on just like.. eminem songs and some rock songs that I listen to whenever the subs hit the vocals get distorted, but when I...

Well it sounds like you need a mono block amplifier for the subwoofers. Subwoofers are ment for low frequency. If you try to run regular audio through the subwoofer the sound will become distorted at a high volume. If you have a crossover on the amplifier try putting it on LP. Also do not exceed the RMX rateing on the subwoofer because if you do they will also distort. If you try adding the mono block on to it and it is still doing it you may also be running to much power to the subwoofers.

Subwoofer plug broken?

Most likely the plug is ok but the level control for the subwoofer will need to be readjusted in the receiver, If the level cannot be raised making sure your source being used has subwoofer information, then there could be a problem in that circuit.

Want to attach a extra subwoofer

If you have a "subwoofer-out" jack on the back of the receiver, you can put a y-cord on it and connect it to two powered subwoofers. Don't expect a big difference in the sound, however. You may even get less bass depending on where you position the sub-woofers.

No sound out of subwoofer

Connection from receiver subwoofer output jack RCA plug male go into your powered subwoofer low level input with other end of cable, then you need to select Subwoofer YES/NO on the JVC receiver speaker setup menu option, select YES if this is a powered subwoofer you are using, should power up the subwoofer, may have to adjust a test tone balance for multi speaker output also, try trimming up on the subwoofer channel to initiate the signal on if the sub has an auto-on feature.

SA-AX720 no subwoofer signal?

THIS UNIT HAS NO SUB WOOFER AMP IN IT. THE ONLY WAY TO OVER COME THIS IS TO HOOK THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SPEAKERS STRAIGHT TO THE SUB WOOFER AND THEN GO FROM THE SUB WOOFER BACK TO THE INPUTS ON THE BACK OF THE UNIT FOR THE FRONT SPEAKERS. THE SUB WOOFER THIS WAY WILL EXTRACT THE BASS AND THE FRONT WILL RECEIVE THEIR PART. THIS SOUNDS CRAZY AS HELL I KNOW BUT THAT'S HOW I GOT MINE TO WORK. THE OUTPUT FOR THE SUBWOOFER IS USELESS AND PUT THERE FOR YOU TO HOOK UP AN AMP FOR A SUB WOOFER. EVERYTHING HAS SHORT COMINGS, AND THAT'S THE ONE FOR THE AX-720.

Power issues: will not turn off or function

Unplug all of the speakers and power on.Its possible that one of the speakers is causing the protection circuit to activate. If powered on and subwoofer works start reconnecting one speaker at a time( after powered off) and retest each time. One Speaker may be bad.Its also possible the output ic is failing under a speaker load. There are no fuses related to this issue. If its not a speaker problem then the subwoofer will need to be serviced.
