I can't remove my GE spacemaker microwave from the wall

The louvered piece that runs across the top that I am supposed to remove will not budge. Is there a trick? I have all the other obvious bolts removed.

Should only be two phillips head screws in the grill holding it.tilt top out first and lift out. if the metal above is smashed down on grill the screws thru the bottom of upper cabinet need to be loosened,< not removed just loosened > and this should help. Some models slide one way or the other to release tabs also.

The GE Spacemaker series of microwave ovens are designed to be installed above an oven range, freeing up counter space in your kitchen. Some of these Spacemaker models are connected to an outside venting system to carry kitchen vapor and odors outside. Other Spacemaker models utilize a ductless system to do this. Removing a GE Spacemaker microwave oven isn't a difficult task, but, because of the size of some of the oven models, it is a two-man operation. Have a question? Get an answer from an appliance repair specialist now!

Things You'll Need

  • Assistant
  • Sharp knife
  • Phillips screwdriver
Instructions
    • 1 Open the cabinet above where the Spacemaker microwave oven is installed. If you see a vent in the cabinet leading to the Spacemaker oven below, your Spacemaker is vented. This vent needs to be disconnected before continuing with removal. Disconnect the vent either by loosening the duct clamps or by cutting the duct tape away with a sharp knife. Pull the vent out of the top of the oven.
    • 2 Have an assistant support the oven from below. Loosen the mounting screws connected to the Spacemaker through the cabinet bottom. Loosen the screws by turning counterclockwise with the Phillips screwdriver.
    • 3 Unplug the Spacemaker from the socket in the cabinet.
    • 4 Continue loosening the screws while your assistant holds the oven in place. Once the screws are removed, have your assistant slowly lower the Spacemaker down by lowering the front face at a 45-degree angle.
    • 5 Feed the power cable for the Spacemaker through the hole in the bottom in the supporting cabinet.
    • 6 Help your assistant slowly pull the Spacemaker forward and out of the mounting brackets on the rear wall. Once the Spacemaker is cleared of the mounting cabinet and rear wall, set it down.
    • 7 Remove the mounting bracket from the rear wall by loosening the screws.

Ge spacemaker xl1800 vent fan

I'm betting your base model number is JVM1860, JVM1861, JVM1870, JVM1871, JVM3660, or JVM3670.
That's the automatic louver you're having trouble with. There are micro switches in the louver assembly which tell the controller when the louver is open or closed.
If one of those switches or the louver motor fails, the louver will not work correctly.
Did your cooktop lights recently fail?
Sometimes the surge from them shorting will cause damage to the circuit board, which can be repaired.
There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.
There is a video here showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

There seems to be no power. No clock. no nothing. It was working fine and then jut stopped. Circuit is not tripped. I tried unplugging and plugging again.

most likely you will have to remove the louvers or trim above the cooking cavity to get to the fuse, look for screws holding the trim/louvers on, if no screws are apparent, the piece may slide to the left or right and pop off.

Unplug your microwave. Although it might seem like no electrical current could possibly be running through your appliance, it could still have stored electrical current somewhere in the system. Be safe rather than sorry and unplug it before you begin.

Find the wiring diagram for your model of GE microwave. You can contact GE directly to get this if you cannot locate your owner's manual. Note the fuse locations and get a screwdriver. Some GE fuses are located under the louvers, while others are located in the door.

  • 3

Open up the microwave and locate the blown fuse. Sometimes you cannot determine a blown fuse by visual inspection so check it with a multimeter for continuity across the terminals.

  • 4

Replace the blown fuse. Go to your local hardware store and pick up a matching fuse. Make sure you check the model numbers of the fuse as well to be sure you get the right component. Install the new fuse and put everything back together.

  • 5

Check the continuity of the circuit if you continue to have power problems. If you have a problem with continuity in the circuit, then you may have a bigger problem than just a blown fuse. Sometimes a power surge will fry a GE microwave's circuit board, which you will need to replace.

How to Remove a GE spacemaker Microwave from under cabinet mounting?

If installed correctly there will be 2 bolts oing down through the upper cabinet and when you take the grill across the top off there should be a lever to pull to release a latch. Recommend there be 2 persons there as it is heavy and has to be lifted off the lip of the wall plate once it is tilted forward after the above steps are done. Good luck...Eric

TRYING TO TAKE MICRO OFF THE WALL AND IT WON'T BUDGE. NEED INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

There are two phillips head screws holding the unit in from the top and a slotted bracket on the wall or cabinet back. Usually you can remove the screws from the cabinet directly above the unit. Support the microwave from the front while removing the screws. CAUTION ! Use two people! While holding the unit level, lift up underneath the rear of the microwave to release it from the slotted bracket in the back and bring the microwave straight out.

this microwave oven slides out of its casing. here's how: first shut the power to the unit by the breaker from your main panel. on the mw oven remove the underneath rightside vent filter. unplug the large white connector that you see in through where the filter was . Dont break it. its locked and keywayed. next remove the top front plastic horizontal louvered front vent by one phillips screw on each end of the vent left and right. then remove the next two phillips screws you see under where the vent screws were. then remove the 3 shoulder screws underneath the front edge of the case bottom then slide that piece of **** oven out of its casing. I'm sure you will know what to do next. Good luck!!

    Getting to the circuit board

First, remove the plastic vent / louver going across the top of the unit. Once that's off, you should see one phillips screw at the top of the control panel frame. Remove that screw, then lift up and out on the control panel assembly. You're there!

Removal of GE Spacemaker Microwave oven

    1. Unplug the microwave. The plug is probably in a receptacle that is in the cabinet above the microwave, or in the wall above the shelf that is above the microwave.

    2. Remove the two (or three) screws that go straight down through the bottom of the cabinet, or the shelf, into the top of the microwave. Have help in holding the microwave when you do this, as the front of the microwave will be able to fall down when the screws are removed.

    3. Allow the front of the microwave to rotate down a little, then lift the back of the unit up about 1/2" to 1". At this point, the microwave will be disconnected from the mounting plate on the wall, so you can move it forward and carry it away.

    Can't remove under counter microwave.

I think there are only three very long bolts that can be used to attach this microwave to the cabinet floor or shelf. Grease, paint, varnish all can make the case stick to the cabinet. You might try running a putty knife or scraper around all the exposed edges keeping the top bolts in place so it will not fall down.
