Question about SK 8 pc. Socket Set, Metric Long Ball Hex Bit

1 Answer

Generator starts dropping voltage as load increases, rpms are lower than specified for gas engine settings but neccessary for correct voltage levels. fACTORY SCREW UP, too late for warranty.

Adjust the Governor screw one half turn until you reach the right RPM, Be sure the fuel filter is not plugged and the air filter is clean as well. If you need more assistance just post another comment on this.

My LCDTV/DVDCOMBO , MODEL NO /3255HD ,Had a power surge from a 5.5 Kva generator , is there any internal surge protection if so were , if not which curcit board would be damaged .?

most likely the power circuits as there is no internal surge protection
have the set properly diagnosed and go from there
always use a power board with surge protection for all electronic equipment
as the voltage from a genset is reasonably well controlled , even at over rpms the voltage would not go high enough to cause damage for example a 240 volts running at correct rpms will only get to 255 volts uncontrolled rpms as the governor lever is fully open
however a lower voltage (200 volts ) increases amp flow and that is probably what did the damage

Output of generator is lower voltage than it should be usually 440v now 395v? reasons?

possible that the rpm of the gen set is lower than normal
there is an adjustment screw that adjusts the spring tension for the governor and it can be adjusted to bring the voltage back to normal
Note here--- if you run the set with a load of around 1/2 capacity set the voltage to on the 440 volts
if you run it at near capacity set it above voltage (445) because as it comes under load the rpms drop and the voltage comes back to normal

I have a Kohler 7.3 ECD generator with error code UVunder frequency. Restarted gen and it ran for one hour so I shut it off. What's the problem?

check the operating rpms
the rpms determine the voltage and frequency and can be adjusted at the governor spring setting
adjust it until the voltmeter reads the required voltage
set slightly above to allow for rpms drop under load
for example if 240 volts set around 250 volts and that will drop back to 240 volts under load
if 110 set around 115 and that will drop back under full load
both frequency and volts are dependant on rpms

Generator electrical problem

No it sounds like the engine is losing power, as the RPM drops the voltage drops, this increases the current load and that trips the breaker.

Why doesn't it start?

gen sets have to be run at set rpms so that the voltage and cycles are correct for the applications
with the rpms as little as 100 rpms below requirement , the voltage will be down , causing a brown out which burns out electric motors and if the rpms are low the required cycles will also be off which affects electronic equipment
service the gen set and find out why the rpms are not at the set level

The generator puts out too many volts. The control knob doesn't help it. Any info appreciated. Thanks, RP

volts on a gen set are controlled by the engine prms
adjust the screw on the governor arm to set at the correct out put volts
remember that unloaded set volts ( rpms ) will drop under load so set about 10 volts over out put voltage so that under load the correct volts will be supplied.

AC voltage is 275vac on the powermate generator model # PM069250......engine speed is 3750 rpm (max is 3600 rpm)......how do i lower the speed and the 275vac to a nominal 240vac output. There is no expert...

On the engines carb. is a governor rod should connect to the front case of the engine. This rod should have an adjustment to slow the engine speed. BUT,,, are you reading the generator unloaded or without any thing plunged into it? Once you have the generator loaded with a device, the voltage should drop to a constant 240vac. 150 rpms should not make that big a difference on the voltage output, and if running under load the RPM's should drop also..

My generator starts and runs great for a while then suddenly the rpms will drop or will race very high causing extreme flucuations in the power level produced

Take a close look at the governor and its associated springs. There should not be any play in the governor arm, springs should be taught when engine is off.

The governor spool may also be binding, but much harder to check since it is internal to the engine.

Start the generator, and watch the governor arm. When RPMs drop, you should see the arm move in an effort to open the throttle. Conversely, when the engine races, you should see the arm move in the opposite direction to try and close the throttle. Small movements of the governor are normal with a steady load. If you don't see the governor trying to correct engine speed, you likely just identified the culprit.

I disassembled my EM650 Generator and to clean out

Most generators (except the latest inverter generators)
produce power directly dependent on RPM's.
The governor adjustment is critical.
This usually is in the form of an adjuster that through a spring, applies a preload to the governor arm.
The governor arm is attached to a shaft that disappears into the motor. Inside there is usually a set of weights that when spun faster will attempt to slow the motor and when spinning too slowly will attempt to increase revs. The adjustment you need to make is to the preload spring.
They are very sensitive to the motor being in good tune so do the air cleaner, spark plug etc before trying to get it right. Under voltage can do more damage than over voltage so take your time and get it to a good steady correct voltage with your usual expected load on it. A safety trip out box gives you a way to test voltage with a load on & some protection.
Work safe

Low voltage

Most generators use a flyball type governor within the engine to control rpm; also there is a voltage regulator that tries to maintain voltage at about 115v. The voltage regulator varies the voltage to the armature increasing /adjusting magnetic force. Use a meter with htz or freq setting to adjust engine governor to 60 cycles. When the generator is producing 60 cycles, the engine should be turning 3600 rpm, max power range. At 3600 rpm the voltage should be 115 to 120 volts. Loading the generator will cause governor to try to maintain 3600 rpm. Check engine manual for proper adjustment of gonvernor and linkage. The governor mech should last the life of the engine, however governor system does wear out. Expensive repair. enjoy
