I keep getting nothing but "paper jam"when i try to print anything. sometimes it works if i spoon-feed the thing one sheet of paper at a time but most of the time all i get is a paper jam or "out of paper" when there is a lot of paper already in the trey.
does this happen a lot or is it jsut my machine? or if it is my machine, how can i fix it?

Most printer jambs are caused by a couple of things. Have you tried different paper? Sometimes paper that is curled, or if the humidity is too low, the paper will hold a static charge and cause paper feed problems. The other is worn or dirty feed rollers, try cleaning the feed rollers with isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol.
Try the feed tires in the tray first. More than likely the paper is not being picked up and causing jam message. The separation roller also has a hub on it to prevent a second sheet from feeding. Sometimes these start to lock up ,a little oil on the hub sometimes relieves some of the tension.
Have you ever tried printing sticky labels in the thing? You have to be careful with those because sometimes a piece will come off and stick in the corner of your printer. If you don't have long surgical tweezers to pull it out, you could be looking at an expensive repair. Also check your manual. There are two places the paper can jam in. You might have checked only one. I have a different Canon model but on mine I also have to make sure the correct light is on. Is the light for feeding from the back on, or the light from feeding on the front? If you have the same light, press it again to change the place where it will feed from.
Make sure your paper isn't curled or that you're using paper that's too thick also.
Can't answer more because I don't know what program you are using to try to print.
Your document feed is separate from your received and report prints so that's why your reports are printing ok and the document feeder jams. When you open up the doc feeder and look inside the machine you will see a roller and above it on the cover that opens you will see a rubber pad. Clean both the roller and pad (in fact anything in there that is rubber) with a rubber cleaner, alcohol, or even soap and water on a cloth without it been dripping wet. You will probablt find that they are very dirty. The roller feeds the document in so that needs to be clean and the pad helps to keep all the other docs from feeding in at the same time and that should be very clean so it produces good friction.
Dear all, I will try to help you. Paper jam error may be caused by some possibilities. So, please notice this indication:
If the printer status is READY immediately after Power ON then Paper Jam Error message appears while feeding the paper: Sheet Feeder Unit is faulty or any other material (such as broken paper) present inside paper path blocking paper end to reach paper feed sensor.
If Paper Jam Error messages appears immediately after Power ON: Paper feed sensor or logic board is faulty
Remove the material from paper path
Replace Sheet Feeder Unit
Replace Paper Feed Sensor / Logic Board

My printer is constantly getting jammed, spitting out blank sheets of paper in between every printed sheet, clicking and snapping, etc.
There are a few places to check for a jam - pull the paper drawer out and check there, take the toner cartridge out and you'll often find a sheet there that you cannot see from any other angle, open the little compartment at the back and check there and the usual paper sticking out of the output just enough to pull it out the rest of the way.
I'll be looking for a new printer this week though. I can't take the constant paper jams and sifting out the blank sheets when I'm printing 500+ statements a month.
Definitely NOT an office friendly machine!
. Switch off the
printer and disconnect the power supply. Allow any residual charge
inside the all-in-one printer to dissipate before putting your hands or
any metal tools inside the chassis.
2. Pin down the exact
location of the jam. The 3 hot spots for a jam are before a sheet
completely leaves the paper tray, anywhere between the feed tray and
print carriage or between the print carriage and output tray.
3. Take off the front
paper tray if the sheet jammed while still in the front area of the
printer. If here, you should be able to see most of the paper.
4. Pull the sheet with
both hands and steady pressure. Do not tug as you might rip the paper,
leaving a piece deeper inside the machine.
5. Open the back panel to reach paper jammed between the feed-tray area and print carriage. Carefully remove the jammed paper.
6. Use the carriage
access door to get at a jam further inside the printer. You may need to
remove the print carriage to get to the jam.
7. Replace all parts and
return any access panels to their closed and locked positions. Plug
your printer back in and flip the power switch.
I had the same problem, and found that the sheet feeder mechanism was intermittent. The problem seems to be that the lubricating grease inside the mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it) becomes too slippery with age, and stops picking up the activating arm which allows the cam unit to move to kick the top sheet of paper into the rubber feed wheel. The repair was extremely difficult because it involved taking most of the printer apart to get to the ink pump/sheet feeder mechanism.(white nylon round thing with gears on it). And then I tried quite a few lubricants (including no lubricant at all) but none of these worked reliably. Finally I tried a dab of automotive wheel bearing grease (it feels like glue), and this worked perfectly. I have had no more paper jam errors and no miss-feeds in about 7months of everyday use.
