You must go to bios and change boot sequence from harddrive first to cd first. When you start your pc it always go to harddrive and freezes up. when you change boot sequence it will only go to cds first then follow directions.

You must go into the BIOS on boot up and choose to boot from CD-Rom instead of the hard drive. When you first turn on your machine and the HP comes up push F10 key to get into the BIOS. Look for boot priorities and put the CD/DVD Rom in the first boot position (directions on how to move these item up/down are at the bottom of the page)

Then your disks will be useful. Put one in and reboot. It should read you disc and follow instructions from there.

Hope this helps you, good luck

System restore hp pavillion dv9720....going thru programs doesnt work

Note: I am assuming that you want to do a system restore and the operating system is Vista
What you can do is keep tapping F11 key on the keyboard as soon as you push the power button to turn on your notebook
It will take you to the recovery manager screen
then select the advance option
under it you will find microsoft system restore ( donot click on recovery )
You can try running restore this way as well and also try different restore points if one does'nt work
Hope it works for u !!

Please come back to vote, it would be a great appreciation for me and boost my determination to help so that I can keep on helping.

I have a hp pavilion slim line s3100n pc and I what to know what type of video card is needs to up grade it

Hi:
According to the HP site, you have an open PCI slot, and a PCI express slot. However, you will have to possibly shop for a low profile card, due to the slim line case:

here is a link for your product:

My pavilion s3100n when turned on just makes this clicking sound and the screen says "failed to boot replace disk and press enter" any clues

The clicking sound is most likely the "Click of Death" an indicator of a failed hard disk drive. The drive is having a hardware malfunction and the read/write armature in the drive is moving back and forth against the internal stops (this gives the click)
Replace the hard drive in the system

My hp pavillion will not power all the way up

What do you mean it powered on to the blue light?
Does anything show up on the screen?
Does the system usually beep when it starts? If so, does it beep now?

HP Pavillion Programs freezing

Suggest restoring the system to factory settings. You will lose all of your data so back it up first.

Restore is either on disks or on recovery partition of hard drive. If you have recovery disks put first one in and reboot computer.

When the computer starts you should see an option to hit F10 for System Restore/Recovery. Hit F10, click advanced settings and choose Destructive Restore. Follow the prompts.

Will need to reload all programs after restore is done that did not come with computer such as Office.

Hope this helps.
Thanks!
