Sensor When I turn on my camera I have a black screen. I saw that someon had a similar problem and it was determined to be the sensor. Has anyone got an idea of the cost to fix this?

L.C.D. screen going black, contacted Nikon, told to return it and problem would be sorted. Received email telling me it would cost £58.67+ vat. Rang support who denied any problem with this model. Suggested she check web sites where the evidence suggests otherwise, being a loyal corporate employee she seemed to think this was some kind of conspiracy theory. Paid £275 for a pile of crap. Will never buy Nikon again.

When the power is turned on there is a black screen only. But the menu and the stored pictures are normalluy shown! Is is due to shutter locking problem? Please any one suggest to solve the problem in Cool Pix S4 model.

Having the same problem here... It's a common defect for sure.
I've sent an email asking if they are to recall S4 and S10 for this
problem, and offer to repair for FREE.

Know any website showing how to fix it yourself should Nikon says
no?

Get on to Nikon and let them know about it, it is a common problem with the S4. They are fixing the 3500 and others for free.

Lcd screen does not show scene and photos are all black. can anyone help?

A stuck shutter is another common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures (for shutter stuck closed), or the pictures may be very bright and overexposed, sometimes with lines, especially when taken outdoors (for shutter stuck open). To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF (you don't want to blind yourself for the next step). Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter. If so, please see this link for further info and a simple fix that may help.

Lcd screen is black

First of all, make sure that you didn't just accidentally turn the screen off. Press the DISP or DISPLAY button on the back of your camera with the camera turned on. This button manually turns the screen on and off to save batteries.
OK, you already knew about that button. Don't get offended, a lot of people don't. Take a picture with the screen black, and download it to your computer. Is the picture also black? Black screen wont show images

May be the issue with CCD (image sensor device) of the Camera.

Refer this article to cofirm this.

http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?mdl=DSCT1&news_id=161

Check whether the LCD screen of the Camera looks similar as given on the page.

If yes, click on the "Yes" button at the end of the page to create an online Repair Request for sending the Camera to the Sony Factory Service Center.

LCD screen black with flashing color lines

I decided to check Canon's website after I saw some responses on your site with similar problems and it appeared that the CCD image sensor was defective so I called Canon tech service this morning and they knew immediately when I described it to them that it was the defective CCD image sensor so they are sending me a mailing label to mail the camera to them to be fixed without a fee. Thanks to the help I got on your website it directed me to investigate that.
