I would bet on a bad ignitor. An appliance parts store should help you thru the install. Should be about $20.00 for the part.

I have a full propane gas cylinder for my grill in my garage. It is very cold in the garage and I'm getting a propane smell. Does the cold effect this or is there probably another problem?

We live and work in South Florida so I'm assuming what we use "very cold" to describe (below 70) is different from what you're referring to. An LP cylinder is full of very cold liquid propane. Heat (and pressure which causes heat) causes the liquid to vaporize and the vaporized liquid propane is what we burn as fuel. I have experience with some building codes far north of here which have a lot of rules for safety features affecting the use of LP fuel because the fear of reconstituting vaporization into a flammable liquid could cause serious environmental damage.
In the heat, it is common for the tank to release some vaporized gas when the pressure becomes too great which is why all LP techs will advise never leave a cylinder in an enclosed area -- the tank safety features do release vaporized propane in order to release pressure...but this is in hot climates.
In a (very!) cold area the only problem I can think of is slow gas pressurization but we have clients who have used common LP cylinders in zero-degree weather without trouble so I really doubt that.
Make sure the tank is not connected to anything. A damaged o-ring can cause a leak but the cylinder just sitting on the floor by itself should not release anything unless it gets heated beyond the available pressure.

Valve and hose connecting to propane tank ice over.

The tank was probably over filled and so the liquid is getting to the valve and regulator...
This also can happen if there is high humidity in the air...the propane changing from a liquid to a gas creates a very cold envioronment...

Basically this is nothing to be concerned about...

Coleman propane stove, tank got very cold. why?

as propane is used it can create frost on the tank or just cause the tank to feel cold. this is normal. this will be worse when the tank is almost empty.

Liquid Propane vs. Propane (like used for BBQ)

They are the same thing.

The propane you buy for your BBQ is liquid in the bottom of the tank. At the top, it comes out as a gas, which you run through a regulator and then into your grill. If you by some chance turn the tank sideways, the valve inside will shut and keep the liquid propane from coming out. If it did you could have a serious fire.

However, there is a difference between what most folks call "Natural Gas" and propane. If you have gas piped into your home, it's natural gas and not propane.

Natural gas dryers won't run right on propane (LP Gas) and vice versa. There is usually a conversion kit you can buy to switch them over.

Out of propane in my truck how do i fill it up

Is the engine in your 1989 Ford F-250 truck fitted to run on LP (propane) gas, or are you referring to the R-12 freon refrigerant in the Air Conditioning system? If you mean the refrigerant, production of R-12 (dichlorodifluoromethane) was phased out several years ago, and if you can find a old can of R-12, whoever has one will charge you an arm and a leg for it. You can get a kit to convert the air conditioner over to R-134a, but due to the risk of injury, this job is better left to a professional. There are a few R-12 replacement products that don't require a licensed technician, such as "Freeze 12" ( To add this you just need a tap and hose kit to connect to the low pressure line into the compressor and fill with the refrigerant. The can will get very cold and any leaking gas could cause skin damage from freezing, and accidentally connecting to the high pressure line will cause the can to blow up, so be careful. If you need propane, just call a propane company that fills home tanks to come out and refill your truck tank.

Let it run. If nothing has changed, the dryer will go through several relight cycles and should eventually purge the lines of air.

Sounds like the thermocouple is not working or the flame is not hitting the thermocouple. It may take 30 seconds of flame or longer to keep it on. Check for a loose connection at the gas valve.

Either a 30# or 110# tank of propane will work. You might even get by for a short period of time using a gas grill tank, depending upon how cold it is outside.
