Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook
I have a 3 month old Pavilion dv4 notebook that has had audio problems from the start. I've called HP a number of times and they don't seem to have a fix.
A couple times a week my audio was going out completely - as in dead. I had to download BIOS and reinstall the audio driver (IDT High Def CODEC). Audio would work for a few days and then the same problem would repeat. This went on for some time, and actually worked for a whole week recently. I was excited!
But, now every few minutes the audio goes "POP", I check and see that I no longer have any audio (driver is still there but I get no sound), then a few minutes later it will quietly return and I have audio, again. I've been limping along for a few days with this on-again/off-again audio. I've called HP and they don't have a fix. They want me to reset everything back to factory specs (YIKES) to see if the problem resolves itself or if there is something wrong with the hardward.
I'm not an IT professional and it has been very slow and plodding for me to install and tweek everything so that I have all of my preferences set up the way I like them. The idea of having to start over from scratch (with no guarantee that it will even fix the problem) makes me want to cry. I do use this notebook for entertainment - so I need audio.
Any suggestions? THANKS
