Question about Echo 30.1CC Chainsaw With a 14 In.bar and Chain

1 Answer

The starter rope on my echo chainsaw model CS 280E will not retract. Therefore I can's start the chainsaw. I don't see how to get into the part of the chainsaw that holds the rope.  There are four screws that hold the cover that must be removed (and a fifth screw that holds the handle) and I have removed all of the screws but it still is not possible to get access.

I have a CS-4400 Echo chainsaw that wont start. I don't think it is firing

1st thing let's check the spark.remove the plug leave it connected to the wire and ground the side of the plug to the engine. and have someone pull the started rope. watch the gap area of the plug for spark. make sure the plug is gap to factory specs, and hold it by the rubber booth. and the on switch is in the run position. good luck Tom

Chainsaw starter rope won't pull

Pull your spark plug to ensure it isn't a compression issue or even piston/rod damage. If it still doesn't move, pull off your starter assembly and try to rotate the fly wheel by hand. If it turns, then your issue is in your recoil spring kit. You can replace the unit, or try to disassemble and reassemble.

Chainsaw won't stay running

You must have dirt in one or more of the carb jets. Remove the carb and clean it with carb cleaner spray and compressed air (compressed air is a must).

Attempted to start unit, second pull, the pull rope seized up and would not release or retract. Approximately a foot of rope hanging loose.

It has either broken the starter spring, or the pulley has jammed in the flywheel, remove the cover screws and take away the starter, if the c ord then retracts it was jammed, if not, slacken the centre fixing screw, does it retract now , if so the centre post is worn, and the fixing screws is clamping the pulley before it bottoms out on the top of the post, if it still does not retract, remove the centre screw and pulley, check the spring behind has not broken, be careful as it is a long spring under tention.

How do you rewind the starter rope spring on an Echo PB-200 Blower.

assuming the spring has not broken behind the pulley causeing this problem you should be able to just re tension the spring, hook the starter rope into the slot in the side of the pulley, this will allow you to wind the pulley ( in the direction that the engine rotates ) up, when you have turned it enough times that the spring is coil bound ( be careful as the spring will be under a great deal of tension ) release the pulley then one whole turn, now unhook the starter rope and allow the spring to recoil ( dont just let it fly back ) and wind the rope in.

The started rope pulls and retracts ok . When I put it back on the saw the flywheel only moves a couple of inches. I , therefore, cannot get it started at all.

Look at the flywheel side of the starter spool for damage to the 'dogs' that grip the flywheel when using the starter. You may need to replace the spool if damaged. Hope this helps!

Starter rope will not retract.

inside the rope pull housing is a flat spring,it may have come loose from its anchor, its an easy fix...unscrew the 3 screws on housing, lift off housing, and the rope pull is inside the casing, you will then see if its broken, or just come off anchor, 10 minute job if its just loose......
