Question about Dell Inspiron 531S (DDCWGA1_5) PC Desktop

Dell Inspiron 531S "windows failed to start"

I have a 2 year old Dell Inspiron 531s (running Vista) that has never been used. When I tried to boot it up, I got a message stating "windows failed to start" . There have been no hardware or software changes made to this system because it has never been used. After I got the windows won't start message, it gave me the option to let windows try to repair itself. It could not make the repairs and therefore sent me to a system restore options screen but I was unable to access those options because I don't know the administrator password. The person that had the computer before does not remember ever even setting it up or giving the system a password so I can't use that option. I cannot get into safe mode by pressing F8. I have the Dell and Windows reinstallation DVD's but when I put them in nothing happens. I went to the BIOS and changed it to boot from CD first and nothing happened. I am really stuck and have posted this problem on two other websites with no luck. Of course, as this computer is 2 years old, it is out of the warranty period. Is there anyone out there that can help me????? Thanks

Well the recovery disk are not bootable if you changed the routeing order okay this would be a little invasive take the hard drive out of the computer and reformat it in another computer if another computer is not the option then your going to need to take it in to a computer repair shop there is nothing we can do online that you can do there because we cannot communicate to you outside of fixya.com realm I cannot even send you anything without getting in trouble. I hope this helps.

I have a Dell desktop running Windows Vista. I cannot boot up to Windows. I have a black screen with cursor error message saying: boot device available, ta 0 installed, ta 1 installed, ta 2 none, ta 3...

That message says that the hard disk was found but nothing on it can be used - Vista is completely corrupted. You will have to reinstall it using the recovery cd that came with it when you bought it.

Hi,
The Inspiron 531s generally ships with the a DVD +- R/w drive. But a user can purchase a Blu-Ray DVD drive on it aswell. The operating system is windows Vista 32 bit.
To check the complete configuration on the computer. Connect your 531, to the internet and Click on the following Dell Link .

System Configuration link

1. enter your service tag and click on continue
2. Click on original system configuration to know what was shipped
3. Click on current system configuration to know what you are using now.

Press F8 many times. You start the tapping of F8 even before the computer starts. The boot menu will come. Its a little tricky. Keep trying. :)

Dell Inspiron 531s Windows Vista

If you are given the option to go into the setup (F2) try to disable the floppy disk drive or move the hard drive up in the boot order.
