not having virus protection on your computer is not really considered to be broken or needing to be "fixed" if you would like virus protection there are many to choose from, Mcafee, norton, ad-aware,and hundreds of others... If you already do have protection and your pc say you dont then you may already have a virus

This can be due to anti virus database too old or they might not have updated the anti virus software.
anti-virus software needs to update regularly.Their update works ranging from a day to a week long.

please be sure to have a anti-virus software installed in your system.
if it not then you can try avg free version to protect your system.
you can download this from the link

Not sure what virus program you are looking for. You can do a search for AVG Antivirus. This program is free and works really well.

Is there really a Trojan Virus that Microsoft keeps trying to sell me a protective program for $199?

No, Microsoft Windows Defender is free to protect you against any Trojan Viruses! If someone is phoning you, they are scammers. There is also stuff called 'RansomeWare', which is a program you inadvertently execute which puts a message onscreen that you have a virus and have to phone money to get rid of it. Often it is a easy as pressing CTRL, ALT, DELETE and closing it is Task Manager.

Yah, sure, blame the wife. :-)

Download the free "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool" from http://support.microsoft.com

It can remove that "System Pro" trojan.

Then, access: http://www.my-etrust.com/microsoft
to get _QUALITY_ anti-virus software, which should have detected and blocked whatever was downloaded, before it did any damage.

But, "best practises" say that you need to "flatten-and-rebuild" your computer, because you can _NEVER_ be sure that you have 100% removed any computer-virus.

Weird addressbar flipping

The Yahoo Software comes with Spyware & Adware; never seen AT&T Yahoo Antivirus detect any virus in my experience. Unfortunately you have to install the software to setup your DSL for the first time; after that it's worthless. I would scan your computer with Microsoft Windows Defender or Ad-Aware by Lavasoft; both are free tools and find many of the common infections. Moreover, it wouldn't hurt to pay for a McAfee or a Nortin Subscription for virus protection; I use McAfee because it doesn't lag my system. There is a free virus protection program called AVG Free which I'm told works good for the price.

Disabling Bios Writing Protection

Sometimes the BIOS calls this protection some sort of "virus protection" as past viruses, like the CIH virus would tend to overwrite motherboard BIOS' with jargon, bricking the motherboard. Try disabling any onboard "virus" protection and try flashing your BIOS again.
