Question about IBM Wheelwriter 30 Typewriter

1 Answer

Wheelwriter 6, seems stuck on print delay

I've seen several references to fixing this, but they all point to hitting Print Mode, or talk about the display. Either this is a different series within, or it was a option that whoever bought this typewriter didn't choose to get, because I have neither a display or a Print Mode button on there.

Symptoms: Nothing types out until you hit enter, then it's fine. It started a week or so ago, not the biggest deal, but some of the people I work with are bugged by it, so I was trying to help out and 'fix' it.

Any suggestions? Or more information required?

Well, it says "IBM Wheelwriter 6" right on the case, but there is no digital display on it. It looks like the one shown here.

It's used in our mortgage department, and I'm not sure it's worth losing the memory over, there's a lot of programmed things that would all have to be redone etc. I think they would rather deal with the problem than have to re-enter it all. I was just hoping it was some button combination I hadn't tried thus far.

The problem seems to be unimpacted by whether I'm in centering mode or not. They're already pricing new type writers to replace it, we just have to find something reasonable that will have the necessary features.

If this a WW6 it must have the display option. there is a slide switch on the display that is set in delayed print.

Just another idea, if you are in auto centering you will get something similar to this. If all else fails remove the batteries unplug for about a min. (WARNING ALL MEMORY WILL BE LOST)

If you are in the centering mode code C you will get a delayed print.

Another thought, I have had the experence that the add on display came loose from the machine and is dangling behind the desk and in the DP mode.
We can sell you a reconditioned WW6 for 325.00 plus shipping.

I have a a Lexmark Wheelwriter 3500 and it has the delayed printing function, well this does not seem to be working correctly it is typing before it should. what can i do to correct this problem?

If it types as you press the kets delay print is turned off, press the print mode key on the r
R. side until Dl prt is on the display. If it just starts typing at a the same position every time you probably have the R. margin set there and auto return on (CODE R).

If they don't print until you hit the return key you are in the delay print mode, use the print mode key on the R. side to get out of it. If it isn't printing at all the plastic print solenoid cap is broken. We sell them with shipping and instructions for 20.00.

Someone used the typewriter and hit some code in error.

If it is in the delay print mode it will print when you hit ret. If this is not the case you probably need a print solenoid cap, they are available but a little tricky to install.

How do i turn off the delayed type on a ibm wheelwriter6

at the very top right of your keyboard there is a "print mode" key
press this key until the note in the left lower coner of the display says "char print"
however in delay print you can correct mistakes before you print - saves on correction tape
