Thanks for the comment, Tank, I have had a reply from belkin support. tells me to trya 3rd party solution "winsockfix" and that it may help.

I posted a not-happy respone to this and they have escalated to a supervisor who is going to call me.

I only want to use the thing to connect my phone to my pc & laptop.(nokia - no cable connection avail) so I think I'll juts buy another "simple" dongle to use.

Belkin don't seem to inerested, I think they should allow the option at least of not uding the LAN via their device in the software setup.

    Thanks again,

    Denis

Yep you can't run both at the same time. Belkin software auto disables for you so there are no conflicts.

I understan your pain, you might find another adapter that won't disable the ethernet connection automatically. I have intel card built-in to my laptop and they both work simultaneously. Ck into other vendors and take that belkin back to the store!!!

    Good Luck,

Connect ethernet without a network card

Actually what you need is a USB ethernet adapter. Then you connect a standard ethernet cable to the USB dongle and to the router or DSL or cable modem. Tigerdirect.com has both 10/100 and gigabit ethernet devices of this type. Since USB 2.0 is limited to 480Mbs, stick with the 10/100 type. Other stores will also have these devices; just read the specs to check that Win2K is supported.

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=589&name=10-100%20Ethernet%20USB

The Belkin in that list has Win2K support in the specs. In some cases, these work better when directly plugged into the computer, not a hub.

I hope this helps.

Unit will not connect, getting acquiring network address.

Hi Houzeman Have you: re-started the computer         power-cycled the router, ie, unplugged unit and waited 10+ seconds, before re-connecting                 disabled the unit, then enabled it checked in Control Panel that the wireless card/ usb adaptor, is enabled; try disable/enable
before checking settings
re-input username and password
re-input security settings?

If you are using a separate modem and router, turn both off, then power-on the modem, before the router.  If you have ethernet access, and a Local Area Connection is available, use it to open a browser and type in 192.168.2.1 (assuming yours is a Belkin) and check your settings.
I use a Belkin, which is a good unit, but it can be cantankerous sometimes, dropping out, then coming back unexpectedly and without reason. Good luck NOEL
