I didn't have the right tools, nor do I own a hairdryer.  It'll have to be a Saturday project and I'll let you know how it goes on Monday.  Thank you for the follow-up.

Feel around condenser and tell me if you feel warm air coming from bottom. If yes, unplug and take back panel off freezer compartment. If frozen evaporator coil defrost with hair dryer or set bucket of hot water inside for a while. Then when you do those things we will continue until we get it fixed, Thanks Sea Breeze

What have you found? Where you able to have a look at the evaporator? Or tell me if warm air is coming from under or behind your refrigerator?

Your refrigerator has a defrost timer on the inside of the fresh food compartment. This will be a simple test while you wait for help. It is hidden inside the controls box near the temperature control. Look for a small opening that you can send a pencil eraser through and turn the control clockwise slowly until you hear the refrigerator compressor stop running. Let it remain off for about 20 to 30 minutes to see if it turns itself back on without your help. If not this will be the main problem. Note, the hole may have a plastic plug covering the opening. Let me know, JT

Should the fan operate all the time in my refrigerator

Most of the time it runs only when the compressor is running. In other words compressor and fans will run together when the fridge thermostat ask for cold and stops together when thermostat is satisfied. In newer fridges some time inside fan (evaporator fan) might PERIODICALLY run without compressor to circulate little cool air to fridge compartment from freezer compartment.

Hello, We have a Whirlpool Gold bottom freezer

I don't know about Whirlpool refrigerator freezers, but my Amana has a temperature control in the freezer that regulates the overall cooling, and then the control in the refrigerator compartment controls how much of the total cooling is sent to the refrigerator section. My advice would be to lower the temperature setting of the freezer, and see if the temperature lowers in the refrigerator as well. Also, you can go to the Whirlpool website and they can help you further.

Hotpoint Refrigerator constantly runs and doesn't shut off normally.

Sounds like the thermostat is not working that is what tells the compressor it is cold enough shut off.

Whirlpool refrigerator not cooling after storm

Assuming that both freezer and refrigerator temperatures have risen and the humming sound that you heard was followed by a sudden click more than likely the start device on the compressor has gone bad. This is a common problem with all Whirlpool refrigerators (KitchenAid is Whirlpools top of the line product and suffers the same problem).

Whirlpool Gold GB2SHDXPS fridge/freezer has stopped working. It is not cold and food is thawing. The light in the fridge and the freezer is still on but it is not cooling.

can you hear a humming sound coming from the back of the refrigerator, if so that means your compressor is running, if you are hearing a buzz or clicking sound your compressor is trying to start, you may need a compressor. Some whirlpools have a 5 year sealed system warranty that would cover the repair.

Sound like you have a refrigerant leak I suggest to take it to a pro because you need lots of tools and knowledge to properly fix it And don?t let people tell you than is just to add refrigerant because that is a common myth or miss conception, refrigerant don?t ware out or burn out if the system need refrigerant is because there is a leak some where.

Whirlpool 20.8 Top won't cool neither refrigerator nor freezer

that's about right, if the compressor is drawing more than 4 amperes, then it is no good.

A reminder also to check the condenser for dirt and debris that could have accumulated at the front, this is a major contributor to compressor failure. check also the fan near the compressor. it should be running at the same time the compressor runs.

that's nice to hear from whirlpool....

good luck tapperal,

tnx 4 using fixya,
