Question about Sharp XR-30S Projector
The projector takes a dvi-d digital signal. make sure your mac is using digital. also, you have to select dvi digital in the menu using either the keypad or the remote.

It is probably mirroring the screens on your MacBook and the projector. If you want different resolutions and things on each screen, go to the Apple menu, System Preferences, Displays, Arrangement and uncheck the "Mirror Displays" checkbox.
