HP OfficeJet Pro 1170c InkJet Printer Logo

On my HP officejet H470 the carriage is stuck on the left. Online instructions from HP say to move it manually (there's no paper jam), but I cannot see how to move manually. There's nothing to grab or push that move the carriage manually that I can find. When the power is on both the power light and the resume light are blinking. And it's highly likely that one or the other of the ink cartridges were not fully seated during cartridge change. Any suggestions. Thanks. Elaine

SOURCE: hp deskjet 6980 blinking lights

ok so for this situation you have to do a cold reset, and by this you have to go ahead while the printer is still power on, disconnect the power cord in back of the printer, and wait for about two minutes. power on the printer if printer still has the blinking lights then go to step 2.

step 2-after this check the printer if light are still blinking, then your going to remove all printheads, remove paper, and then unplug printer power cord from printer and also from the wall outlet, wait for 20 seconds, then power on the printer, wait for light to flash then install the printheads, put paper, and press the resume button.
*** always connect your printer to a wall outlet never to a power strip, the power strip robs some of the power from the printer***
and this should fix the problem if it doesnt then the carriage might me malfunctioning . hp recently did a recall on some printer with the 6940 and some of the 6980, that the carriage broken.

Hope this help!

SOURCE: HP Deskjet 5550 cartridge carriage stuck SPAM SPAM SPAM 1-800-532-4187

I have had this same problem a few times, not due to changing the cartiges, but following one of my kids yanking on a peice of paper as it was printing. After I tried all the unplugging and clearing and re-starting, the arm was still stuck on the left. I read on some forum (can't remember where) while the printer is off, to gently push/pull on the cartiges until they un-jam or start to move. I flet like I was going to break it, but it has worked every time.

Hope this helps osmeone else!

Check the printer again to see if a very small jam is present. If totally clear, press the Resume button. If same result, power the printer Off / On.

"carriage jam. Open door. Clear carriage jam, then press okay" error keeps repeating... tried everything still no change...

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.
