My machine started giving a code (I don't remember which one) during the cycle and it stopped working. I tried to drain and spin, but it only hummed. We tried turning the power off and on and now the door is locked and the machine won't work. how can I get the door open?

Re: kenmore elite front loader washing machine
Has the fuse blown, if so replace this to ge the machine up and working to start with, set to drain only if you have the option, if the machine empties then the door may open, if its set to spin and the electric trips then there is a motor fault,, not much information given but now you have somewhere to start from

I was getting a F-xx code can not remember the number. If you remove the bottom front plate , I remember 3 three screws.Behind that is the filter for the machine, mine had a 2-3" white cap that came off with a screen inside that was plugged. When you open it up you can get a fair amount of water come out. The machine will not work until you put the front cover back on. UNPLUG the machine FIRTS
This seems to be a problem in the start switch diode. If all works fine, but will not push and start and all cycles seem to work when working it manually, this is in the switch timer electronic diode is not working properly. Sometimes a code will not come up, because cycles are still working when manually changing wash cycles. There is seperate switch or electronic trigger that starts the machine, and has probably worn out or not making good contact. If you can unplug machine and then take off panel, trying spraying behind start switch with electronic cleaner to free up any possible dust or dirt. Might get lucky.
First of all, make sure haven't inadvertently locked your control panel. Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds to see if it clears. How long did you unplug the washer for? The manufacturer recommends unplugging the washer for at least 30 minutes to reset the computer. Try this first and let me know what you have. It could be you only have a minor glitch.
If these preliminary checks prove unsuccessful, you may have a control panel problem. Do you have any error codes deisplayed? Please reply and let me know what you have.
