My friend has this netbook and has got a ton of Virus on and it won't let her online. How to I format the hard drive on this thing

I would suggest formatting the hard drive ONLY as a last resort. I would suggest installing a new copy of Web-root A/V and spy-ware AND a subscription copy of Malwarebytes Anti-mal-ware programs. You will have to load and run them in Safe mode the first time. If you run then at least once per week after that, you should have no problem. The first time you run the programs, they will clean most of the crud out. Keep running until they show no more threats.

If you still must reformat the hard drive, you will need the original CD to load the operating system and drivers for the laptop. If you don't have the original CD, You will have to load the operating system and find the drivers for the laptop from the maker of the laptop.

If you find this information helpful, Please rate it high. thanks.

I have tried everything Ctrl F11, Ctrl F9, Ctrl F8 and nothing allows me to reset the harddrive

Im not sure that you understood the concept of resetting the hdd...this can be done only by formatting ...and from the windows you can not format but the partitions(drives) that not contain the windows installation ...to be able to format all partitions you have to use a installation cd with the operation system ( a boot-able one ) ..and boot from cd ...by selecting this operation from Bios settings ...and go along with the clean installation not from the recovery partition or cd ...
after you get along with the clean installation and formatted the hdd and remake the partitions ...and finished the installation of the operating system ...than you can use the recovery cd to install the drivers and the factory settings and programs .....
another easy way to do that ..is to hook it on another computer ...and just format it from windows...this will erase it clean ..and you will have to reinstall the OS after that ...

Re-format laptop hard drive

Hi, If you REALLY need to FORMAT your Hard Drive, that is...SCOUR out ALL THE DATA on it, then get a CD disk with Win 98 FDISK on it. It can be downloaded by a friend who can BURN it for you. Go into STARTUP by hitting appropriate "F" key, (experiment here...), then tell the BIOS to start up in CD drive..
Save setting, restart, at the C:>: prompt, type "FORMAT C:", & telll it to go... Hang onto your hat, your Hard Drive is being SCOURED CLEAN & prepared for new data to be installed... Dugal

No hard drive page in bios

If the hard drive has not been formatted you will need to boot to the operating system cd. Each hard drive manufacturer has their own drive manager program which you can download and burn to cd on another computer as well. You do not need to have the same brand as the original. If you have any trouble with the formatting please tell me and I will help you. Steve Medley

Partmgr sys

did the computer originally come with windows xp or an older operating system?looks like you may have some hardware issues.download ultimate boot cd from this link.Follow the directs to burn the image to disc.Boot from the CD and run memtest to check your memory, then run any of the hard drive diagnostic tools from the hard drive manufacturer.Let me know what happens after that.If none of the hardware fails I will recommend using one of the hard drive formatting tools to do a low level format on your hard drive and try installing the operating system again.note,if you have files that you need on the hard rive you'll lose them if you reinstall the operating system without backing them up.

Re-installing operating system

If you boot to the CD (on boot with the CD in the drive you should get a screen with the option to boot to the CD, if your boot order in your BIOS is set to CD ROM before Hard Drive), you should (after loading files for a while) get to a screen that will allow you to select the drive/partition to install to. If trying to install from within the Windows environment it won't happen.
