I thank you for your advice but could you be more specific? Where exactly is this sensor located?

  • sbenn37044 Apr 23, 2009

There are two small holes in the side of the combustion area opposite the igniter is that the sensor? If so I cleaned it off and even used the vacuum cleaner and still no flame. Any other suggestions?

There is a light sensor near the igniter. Clean off the dust on it's glass face. Don't bump the igniter, it's delicate.

The sensor is mounted in the combustion area. It has a glass area aimed to where the fire happens. It will have a couple of wires leading to it. If it gets sooted or dusty, it can't see the igniter get red and won't turn on the gas. If the flame goes out, it will turn off the gas. Make sure the wires haven't come off at either end.

I looked your model up at RepairClinic.com, my favorite site. They show your sensor as a rectangular device mounted to aluminum. This thing is not small. It will have wires going to it. There's not much else in that area besides the igniter and the flame device. Even after you find the sensor and clean it the dryer still may not work. That could be a gas valve problem. They are expensive, and I would have a technician do that part. He may get lucky and find another problem not so expensive. Some time you just gotta call in a pro.

Speed queen gas dryer, at least 20 yrs old: the igniter begins to glow, then fades out, there doesn't seem to be gas ignition as the chlothes are not drying...so?

Sounds like you may need some coils. Mine would heat up for a minute then go out. The coils were my problem. They are located close to the igniter. They come 2 in a pack and you have to replace both. Probably $20

My speed queen model AGM499W does not dry clothes cycles off and on after 10mins

Here is what I did. I went to the breaker box and reset the breaker for the dryer. Sometimes it will only pop 1/2 of the breaker, due to being too hot.
Hope this works

Problem with speed queen 30EG. Dry ignitor turns on trying to turn on the burns but the dryer turns off in about 5 sec. If I turn off the gas valve the dry stays on.

Sounds like the thermistor. It is the whit plastic piece on the front of the motor - blower assembly with 2 wires going to it.
