Question about 2wire (1000-400108-001) Router

Green power light is off. Red light stays on. Tried unplugging, resetting, etc. Wondering if it's completely shot?

I have a 2wire Gateway router and modem that's about 4 years old. I have it hard wired (ethernet) to a Dell computer Yesterday, it dropped a connection. When I checked it, I found the power indicator wasn't green, it was a steady red. I tried unplugging, hitting the reset and a few other things. Nothing works. Basically, I'm wondering if it's shot and I should give up?

This is my second 2-Wire modem that has quit just after the warrenty expired. I have one red light on and one green light and no internet access. When I go shopping is there a more reliable way to connect my iMac (and my son's toys) to the internet? I got bad advice in the past.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for using fixya

The red light on power means that the diagnostic for the modem is on, and when this is on this means that the memory or another component of your modem is at fault. Usually this can be resolved through a firmware upgrade to be applied by 2wire, but note that 50% of the time, when the diagnostic light is on, the device is dead.

To have this issue resolved, you may refer to your ISP or 2wire, if it cannot be revived, the least they can do is provide a recommendation.

The problem is the power supply, the transformer is bad. Get a new Ac adapter and it will work fine. I have expoerience with 2 units.

I cannot stay connected to internet, my model 2701HG-B 2wire at&t dsl will start flashing red then disconnect me from the internet or my game site, how can i get this to stay fluently connected please!

You might want to try disconnecting everything EXCEPT the power cord. If you still get the red power light (it should stay there forever) then bring the gateway to Radio Shack or somewhere they have a 5 volt DC @ 2 amp power supply and plug it in for 5 to 10 minutes and see if the power light then stays green. If it stays green then all you need is a new power supply! If not, then the gateway is fried. Mine keeps going from a solid green power light to a flashing green power light and I can hear a relay click every 2 minutes at which time a pop-up say "ethernet line disconnected". I tried new power supply etc. to no avail! It is fried after 1.5 years! No more 2wire for me!

Earlier today I had a Red Power light and only a green wireless light. Now I have no lights when I plug in the 2wire router / modem. Is the equipment dead or is there something I can do besides replace...

Try the following steps:
1. Disconnect the 2wire gateway power adapter.

2. Reinsert the power adapter directly into the wall socket.

3.Remove any power strips or surge protectors temporarily to ensure that these items are not preventing the 2wire gateway proper operation.Note: Make sure that you are using the power adapter that came with your 2wire gateway.

4. Plug the power adapter into a different wall socket in another room.

5. Press the red factory reset button if available.

6. If the power light is still red, then you will need to replace the 2wire gateway.

What does it mean when there is a solid red Power light on the ATT 2wire DSL wireless router?

it means 2 things. 1st it could be the adapter because theres still power to it and 2nd is the 2wire router is already defective. if its possible for you to bring the 2wire with the adapter to any computer store or to att store and have them plug a new adapter on it . or if you have available 5volts adapter you can try to check if power will be solid green using diff adapter definitely its the adapter but if you have tried it but power will flash green or red the modem is dead. powerlight of any router should stay solid green no matter what happen.
have it checked carefully so you dont need to spend $82 for the 2wire, adapter is $10 only..

Goodluck!

My 2wire gateway Power light stays on red n router

This is a sin of a bad unit already, but you can try first resetting the unit by pressing the reset button for 30 seconds and then after that if still the same problem the unit needs a replacement already and better contact your ISP or the manufacturer for the replacement...

Power Light Is Red, Internet Light Is Green, Other Lights Off

Check cable connections.

Try unplugging router from power for five minutes.

If that does not work call Internet Service provider to check if there is a problem with their server.
