GArmin 205W won't turn back on

My GPS was working fine. I had just turned it back on in the car and then it shut off and will not turn on. There is no reset button. I held it in the on position for 8 seconds and that did not work either. Help.

Thanks.

There is a reset located on the bottom where the decal is. Use the tip of a pen to push it.

I recently ran into the same problem, my 205w would not power back on. I logged in Garmin website under repair solutions. Said hit reset button using pen or stylis. My 205w does not have a
reset button....further comments in the reset instructions said if your device does not a button,
slide on switch to the left and hold 10 to 15 seconds it should power on while your holding it.
it took 12 seconds for me... This was refered to as a soft reset

Hope this helps, Enjoy!

This model DOES have a reset button as I have the same model. It's located on the bottom decal with all the writing. It is a bullseye that says "reset." I once had this problem but a recent software upgrade fixed it. If you download "webupdater" from garmin and hookup your unit, you'll get the new upgrade.

Could it be the battery is dead? Check the fuse for the cigarette lighter socket.
Check the fuse in the cigarette lighter adapter on your power cord, the tip should twist off to expose a fuse.

Hope this is of some help.

Says no adresses of maps found, what does that

Periodically, the firmware or 'brains' inside phones, mp3 players and GPS devices get confused. They begin to work erratically, or refuse to complete their startup routine at all. The good news is that 99% of the time, new life can be breathed into them by either a reset procedure or a firmware / system software replacement.

Here are the steps to fix your Garmin Nuvi 205W:

  1. If your Garmin NUVI 205 can be recognized by your computer when plugged in, I recommend you backup your favorites.
  2. Then I suggest a hard reset.
  3. Finally, replace the firmware and system software using webupdate.

I hope that helps.

Garmin Nuvi 205w and now it wont turn on.

You can restore the Nuvi 205 system software to its factory condition by running Garmin's WebUpdater service. You may also want to try a hard reset of your Nuvi.

I hope that helps.

Garmin 205W doesn't work while charging in car

I have a 205w and have been very frustrated with this same issue, but I just so happened to find the following fix on another site today and it works great.
Follow these steps:
Turn on the unit on battery, press the battery icon and hold for about ten seconds, and the unit will switch to the diagnostic mode. Now plug in the USB cable and it will give you a loud bleep. Exit the diagnostic mode and it will operate normally while charging. This was handy to enter favorites while it was charging.

You will have to send it to Garmin with your original receipt and they can reload the maps your unit came with. There may be a charge for this service.
