If you don't know what u are doing u shouldn't mess with video head. U can easily damage the head. If cleaning tape does not work have tech do it. Should be relatively cheap.

I have sound but i have horizontal and vertical hold and static.

The video heads might need cleaning. You can get a tape to do this or you can clean them using Servisol Video 40 (available on-line). To do it with the Servisol you will need to remove the top cover and spray the video heads. Wait for it to dry before testing a tape.

Most likely you will need a scan converter to change your signal from a Video to a VGA. The signals are mismatched.

I have a 19TVR62 tv/vcr combo and the vcr used to work, but all of a sudden it no longer plays videos. At first I was getting sound and a fuzzy screen, and now I'm not getting sound either. Help!

That sounds like dirty heads. Try a cleaning tape, but I have never had those work. You need chammy swabs, and rubbing alcohol and you clean the heads manyally. Hopefully your vcr comes out with only a few screws.....

Clean the heads parallel to tape path, not up and down the video drum. If you do parallel direction, it is hard to damage the heads...

Clean other items along the tape path and remove all hairs that you can find..but hte heads are the part not working, common for tape dust to accumulate and harden.

My VCR won't play my movies! The tapes are fine its just when I put the tape in it just shows a scraggly screen. Everything is plugged in but my movies won't play. What do I do?

If the vcr is running the tape, your video head is probably dirty, try using a cleaning tape if you have one. The second option is use a brand new blank tape T120 and set the the machine to sp speed (2hr running time) and let the tape run the full course. The third option is to remove the lid of the vcr and carefully clean the video head with a swab dipped in rubbing alcohol rotating the head by hand as you proceed allowing several minutes to dry before loading your tape.

My VCR cannot read any vhs but once I get to go to the menu and it is start giving only the sound, not the image.

It sounds like you need to do a good clean up inside the vcr with some Servisol Video 40 and some cotton buds. You need only to take off the top cover. Clean anywhere the tape touches. Or you could get a VHS head cleaner tape, but you'll make a better job with the Servisol!

VCR jitters

Is the brake tension and alignment okay? What did you clean the drum with, fluid and stick? Did you clean the rest of the path as well - erase head, audio heads, capstan, pinch roller - etc?

One possibility is the tracking/audio head is dirty. Remove top cover of VCR, this head sits just to the right of the rotating video head. Use a cotton swab moistened with rubbing alcohol, or other video head cleaner and clean this head, especially the lower edge, as the tracking info is recorded along the lower edge of the tape (if memory serves). Another possibility is a problem with tape travel past this head. If the tape is lifting or moving up or down, even slightly as it passes this head, tracking will be lost, hence your blue screen & bad audio. This could be observed by playing a tape with the VCR cover off.
