Maytag Dryer Heating Element

Question...on the low tempature setting on the dryer it still feels as hot as the hight tempature setting. Does the control for the heat setting work based on a resistor that reduces electrical input to the heating elements for drying. If so and the resistor fails would the result be heat at the high setting regardless of the dial setting.

The dryer won't get hot. is it a fuse?

you need to dismantle the dryer and check the heating element, the hi-limit switch, the cycling switch, the thermal fuse for continuity, all will have very low readings if any except the element but should show some resistance

Dryer element stays warm

If it heats w/ the timer in off position whenever plugged in the the element is shorting to ground, its most likely due to either a broken coil or a cracked insulator. If heating w/ timer set for drying but motor is not running, the heat circuit thru the centrifugal/start switch on the motor is stuck closed.

Dryer runs but does not get hot

IT IS YOUR HEATING ELEMENT THAT IS GONE. YOU CAN BUY A NEW HEATING ELEMENT AT LOWE'S HARDWARE OR WHEREEVER YOU BOUGHT YOUR DRYER FROM. JEFF THIS IS A COMON PROBLEM IN ALOT OF DRYERS. I HELPED MY FATHER (WHO DIED IN 2006) REPLACE A HEATING ELEMENT ON OUR DRYER YEARS AGO WHEN I GOT HOME FROM WORK. IT IS THE HEATING ELEMENT. GOOD LUCK.
BEST REGARDS,

Now you should be able to see the element heater box.

If you feel confident here are the main things to do onchecking for no heat Electric Heating Dyrer
1 Check for 220 Volt at the heater entrance to the heaterbox (accessible from picking up the top on most dryer models).
If you have 220vthere the heater element is out.
2 If you don't have 220v on the terminals of the heater theproblem is in the controls.
The fuse link, thetimer contacts, the centrifugal switch on the motor, and the heater safetythermostat and operating thermostat(s), are all suspect and have to beeliminated 1 by 1.
Hope this helps.
With any luck all you need is a new element. Clean the ductout while replacing the heater if so because the main thing that causes heaterelement burn out is low air flow. A kinked Dryer vent hose, lint, and pluggedup fan circulator on the motor, or if yours has little holes in the insidecabinet where the air is taken to be heated and recirculated, these can getclogged with lint also and cause a problem are the 4 main causes of low airflow..

Hope this helps and please rate me accordingly Thank you andgood luck.

Maytag compact dryer low heat doesnot dry. works for hrs clothes still damp.

i am sending you all the possibilities for your problem, check either of these causes ----and than let me know if it is solved----

Power from the house
Check to see whether there's power getting to the dryer. Is it plugged in? Check for blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers--your dryer uses two fuses or circuit breakers. The dryer could tumble but not heat if only one of the two fuses is blown. If you have circuit breakers, one of the two circuit breakers can trip, even if the two for the dryer are connected.

Heating element
Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable.

Thermal fuse
On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)

Wiring
A common problem is for the main wiring connection from the house, at the dryer, to burn and break its connection. Because the dryer can still tumble with partial power, the connection may be only partially defective. You may need to replace both the power cord to the dryer and the terminal block inside the dryer that the wire is attached to.
