Question about Washing Machines

Washing machine causing power failure in whole

When we switch the power on to the washing machine we are getting a power surge knocking out all power to the whole house. We have tried in several different sockets and different appliances in this socket and it is only occurring with the washing machine which is only 3 months old

This is knocking out a 30amp breaker. There has been a washing machine in this socket for the last 6 years. We have recently upgraded the machine to a new model but nothing else socketwise has changed in the house.

Best answer to this is the circuit outlet is connected to is overloaded < to many items are plugged into it > could be 15-20 watt breaker and usage amounts to more than wattage allowence. If you can lighten the load on circuit by removing things < t.v.,appliances,lights,etc.> from the other outlets that are affected < shutting down when breaker trips > then you can compromise and use washer any time. The other suggestion is to dedicate a breaker to washer, < by adding breaker and wiring to outlet for washer >.

would call manufacturer and they will send repairman to inspect unit,< they can do this for free on a three month old unit.

My Sony KF60XBR800 keeps shutting off while also triggering the surge prootector. What is causing this and is it do it yourself fixable?

surge protectors only work in one direction--from the power supply to the machine and are there to dampen a sudden over voltage surge in power supply-- lighting strike or power surge after grid failure or outage
I am thinking that the unit you keep switching on is an earth leakage unit or circuit breaker that is in the system to prevent electrical shocks from bad insulation or low performing components
if that is the case you have a potential short in the unit and should have the machine checked out at an appliance shop

My LG front load washing machine, model WM3001HWA, has no power. What can I do?

Hello Kyle;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

You have 3 sensors in your unit, a thermal sensor, a position sensor and a door lock switch. These components will prevent you from running but, would not affect your power.

I assume you checked your circuit breaker to make sure you have power to your washing machine.

The slightest change in power supply, electrical power surge or power outage will knock out your boards. Magnetic fields and static electricity will knock out your boards. Are your appliances near a main power supply line in your home?

All appliance manufacturers recommend surge protectors if you have control boards in your appliance. Individual wall socket surge protectors cost about $20.00 at your local Home Depot or where ever. This is a good investment.

Ok, your have 3 control boards in your unit. One is the digital display board which has nothing to due with power supply.

The others are your main control board and your control panel board. Each of which can turn off power. The highest probability is the main control board. The part number for this board is EBR 44289820. The part cost $225.00 locally. You can probably get it for $180.00 if you search the internet. This is item A450 on the following link.

Remember static electricity can not out a board. Ground yourself by rubbing your hands over something that is steel. Either unplug your unit or turn the power off at your household fuse box. There are several clips holding the board in the casing. you must push outward to remove the board. Inspect the circuit back side for burn marks. If there are no burn marks you can still have a board component failure. DO NOT DISCONNECT ANY CONNECTOR PLUG IN. When you replace the board, you will replace one at a time.

MALIBU 200 WATT IRON CORE TRANSFORMER MODEL NO 8100-0200-01 LIGHTS WONT TURN OFF

Plug power pack into cheap wall timer, and that will operate lights until warranty is resolved with Malibu or product-seller.

Simple power outage, or nearby lightning strike, can cause surge that will knock out digital timers. And knock out analog series power packs too.
You probably need receipt for warranty claim.
This timer is not shown on Intermatic site, and not subject to Intermatic 5-year warranty, but certainly Malibu must have a warranty of unknown length, and a corresponding claim procedure.

Double-check your installation, and additional resources:

Whole-house surge protection is hot item among folks these days since so many household items are now electronic, including appliances, washer-dryer, water heaters, timers, etc.
This will protect both 120Volt and 240Volt circuits, although it is unknown if your timer failed because of surge..

A machine that old...after the cost of a service visit...you're better off letting it R.I.P. But...if it happened after a power failure, chances are a power surge knocked it out. I would call a service tech if you would like to persue with repairs.

After an electrical storm my Acer m1640 has no power although the mains power lead is intact. Are there any internal fuses that could have blown

Hi,
Sorry, no fuses. Lightning is a major cause of computer failure. Failure could be a power supply, motherboard, processor or the whole system.

Next time get your computer a good surge protector. They are cheap and protect your computer from electrical mishaps.
