Yamaha HTR 5740 no surround sound with DVD

My receiver will not play surround sound on the DVD. I ran a test and all of the speakers are functioning. Went through the manual again and again. I get sound from all of the speaker but can not get the surround to work. It is as if the signal coming from the DVD player is stereo only but they are surround cabable DVDs that I am playing. It did work fine but I just recently set it up in my new home and the surround function went away somehow. Any ideas.

Re: Yamaha HTR 5740 no surround sound with DVD

I found that I needed to use fiber optic or digital Coaxel (sp?) to get it to work. The RCA didn't work for the sorround. Since I didn't have fiber optic on the DVD player I had to re-assign the coaxel plug to DVD. Do you know how to do that? Like you, by the way, it worked in my old home but couldn't get it to work in the new home.

Once I was able to plug in the digital coaxel cable in from the DVD player, it worked fine. If you have a fiber optic plug on the DVD player already you don't need to mess around we "re-assigning".

Surround sound for DVDs.

If your DVD disc supports it, you will have to enable surround sound from the DVD, as well as the speakers.

We cannot get sound through the yamaha amplifier while watching a dvd? TV and Foxtel works but we only get sound from the tv when we are watching a dvd. we have a Sony Bravia TV and a Yamaha HTR6130...

You need to connect the unnamed DVD player's audio to the receiver according to the player's manual and then assign the digital input on the HTR (if applicable). THAT would be in the HTR's manual (page 6).

I'd run the DVD's best video straight to the TV. Nothing good comes from having unnecessary cabling or interconnects zig-zagging across the room.

Hi I have a Yamaha yht 292 surround sound system with a model htr 6230 reciever. I have a panasonic (42'') plasma HDTV (model TC P42X1) attached to the receiver by a HDMI cable. I also have a Samsung Blue...

As per HTR-6230 specifications ( the HDMI function is only "audio-passthru", which means your receiver is not able to get the audio from HDMI cable, it can only pass it forward to TV. You would need a receiver with "HDMI switch" to be able to listen to audio via HDMI cable. You can find such receiver by looking if it supports TrueHD audio (which can be transferred ONLY via HDMI cable).

With your current receiver, you can connect it to the Blue-ray player via Optical SPDIF cable. I have checked the specs and both receiver and BD player supports optical connection.

Want to use all 5 speakers on surround sound yamaha htr-6230 on tv programs. how set up?

Depends on the audio source for your TV sound. If it's a digital cable box, run a coaxial or optical cable from it to an available digital input, assign it as "TV" and you're done; or if the cable box has 5.1 analog outputs, usethose to the Multi Ch imputs.

If your TV sound source is only RCA cables (stereo) you're stuck with DSP surround modes.

Rear speakers not working

Your FM tuner will only generate sound from the front sepakers. CD's, Tape, and I guess mp3 player, as well, will only play through the front speakers.
I've included a link for the manual. The audio on this rig is pretty complex. read through the info, especially pages 11,12,13, and play with the audio controls.

Lg home theater to lg plasma tv

This is a typical problem with TV broadcast UNLESS you use a matrix DSP surround sound mode, most DVD audio is either Dolby digital 5.1 surround or DTS multi-channel surround sound, unless you are viewing a HDTV broadcast with 5.1 Digital sound connected from the TV to the receiver then you are probably receiving a 2 channel Stereo sound format, I would suggest that you try to set your TV input mode to a audio Dolby Pro- Logic which will yield 5.1 and should engage all speakers.

TH-A35 receiver

You can't get 5.1 sound from a MP3 source !!! You get a 5.1 sound only from a good STEREO (analog) source or from a REAL 5.1 DVD audio track. Also check your "Autosurrond" setting on the remote-control.
