  • Anonymous Nov 26, 2008

all good but the magnet of the odd had fell off and was stuck to the top of the odd case. this was a premium console hitachi drive rom 78.
good console, and online gaming i can not fault (unlike ps3) made well, online is sh*t and the games are the same) but not made very well. un like nintendo. still got a 64 that works 1995. xbox 1 will prob still work if you have a dvd drive for it, but 360 14 months then it should die, if it lasts any longer you have done well.1/3 of em 33.3333.....% fail with in 14 months. chep build not in house. most mony in the world this is why nintendo all ways nerly going under but the best made kit?????
thanks for my rant but this would have cost loads if i did not open the case my self. thanks all.

  • Anonymous Nov 29, 2008

most comman when the drive opens it self meens the disk is not reading or there is a fault with the dvd drive it self or the motor that drives the disk is not turning. most probaly the magnit has come out of its home and needs putting back in. I have reapaired many xbox 360 and i have so say it kind of build it a cheep *** computer like system and it sould not sell for more then 200 dollars MAX. i have never got one my self because after fixing so many i would find it a waist of time and a lot of money to get something I know will stop working, its not a matter or how good you look after it. its just time to when it will stop. lucky if you get 2 years from it. if i was to get one it would have to be given to me. buy a computer instead and bone wais your money.

  • antonach Jan 03, 2009

When I turned my console on the disk draw opens. Before this problem had occured I was playing a game and my console made this grinding noise. At that point I had turned my console off. I turned it back on and my disk draw opened. I close it but the draw keeps on opening. Its stopping me from playing games.

My problem was the magnet that is supposed to be in the black rotator that the DVD is placed had come out and was sticking to the top of the DVD drive lid... I opened up the XBOX 360 by removing the hard drive on the top first then on the sides of the XBOS you will notice air holes but if you look closer looking from the front of the box on the right hand side you will notice there are more holes then the left and side. I will try to put everything in steps and hope you understand them

1 - Removed the hard drive from the top
2 - Starting from the back pushing a pen in the side holes on the right hand side to unclip the Gray cover
3 - Do the same on the bottom to remove that Gray cover as well.
4 - Unclip the front white face cover and remove it
5 - you will see 4 cover clips on the front holding both side of the case together "unclip them BUT don’t force apart" there is more on the back
6 - Unclip the back by pushing the pen point in all the 7 small holes in the back THEN you can pull the cases apart
7 - Remove 6 long screws from the bottom then take the othe side of, Unplug the cables from the back of the DVD drive and lift it out away from the XBOX
8 - Unscrew the 4 side screws of the DVD drive and take the top cover off.
9 - Take the magnet of the top cover from the white plastic
10 - Use some very good adhesive glue on the black rotator wheel (not to much) wait for the glue to part dry for 3 or so minutes then place the magnet in where it belongs
11 - Leave overnight to dry (don’t try and hurry the glue or you will be doing this again.
-- ** now revers all the steps from 6 till 1 to put everything back together ** --
Mine is fixed now and I hope this worked for you (I did get it working sometimes by just keep opening and closing the draw) but this fixed it for good and now all is working well again

This fixed it. Thank you highly appreciate it. Just a recommendation to everyone go to your local hobby store and tell them you need super glue for your tires on your R/C car. This is the best type of super glue. From experience, any other super glue ive use on my tires for my R/C car have came off except the glue meant for them.

The little magnet in the drive came out of mine so just glue it back onit should connect to the spin motor instead of the top cover

Posted on Oct 01, 2007

Had this same problem but it's temerpory..............keep closing it with the game control and not ur hands for a good 10mins, if that don't work do the samething without a disk in tray, and if all that fails unplug ur xbox 360 i'm talking power, control, hard drive, ethernet connecter, video/audio cords and put the xbox 360 in the orginal way u first pla it in vertical or horizantal and and connect back everything and it should work.

Unless it's passed its warranty or you don't feel confident enough, open up the xbox, and the dvd drive, (plenty of vids on utube). i found the problem was that there were 2 little white wires on the dvd motherboard that had not been soldered properly. I fixed that and found my tray stopped opening all the time.

SOURCE: my xbox 360 keeps saying open tray instead of playing my disk

This is more than likely your laser that is dead and its possibly a samsung or hitatchi drive, be careful when
buying a new laser because there is a lot of dodgy ones around at the minute which can damage your machine or
at the very least will be inferior and not last long.

its very possible it could also be your logic board which is a controller that controlls your dvd drive and laser etc. if this is faulty (and im betting its a samsung) then you might have to replace. you can pick these up for swap with the one on your drive for around £10 and can be effective but i would also checj the drive belt and make sure that is tight and working ok and tha laser too.

if your 360 reads dvd's but not games it may be repairable but if it wont read anything then your better off replacing the laser. strip down the console and strip the dvd drive, take out the laser and look underneath it, it will have a code such as HD57 or something else, note that down. Visit ebay and search for the laser with the same code, buy it, fit it in and make sure you de-solder the static blob of solder before using it (search the net about this or ask the seller) and then try your machine again :)

Replace the laser. This is the cheapest and easiest fix for this problem. You can get one of ebay for under $15

What do you do when your xbox won't read disks?

The main problem might be a big problem with the disk tray. There might be an faulty wire that has lost connection and if your disk wont event turn on, there might be a problem with the power supply that supplies the cd tray. If the disk opens and closes but doesnt read and wont say tray is in and keeps saying open tray, there might be a small fracture on some of the wires or there is something wrong with the motherboard of the xbox 360. The best way is to buy the warrenty now and send it to the xbox 360.

Xbox 360 wont play any disk keeps saying no disk

Try cleaning the disk, if that doesn't work, try another disk, if that doesn't work, then turn the xbox off, take the hard drive out, put it back in, then try playing the game again.

I put game disc into xbox it wont play but keeps telling me to open tray

its an error, it sounds silly but put the disk in and when it says reading hit the xbox on the vents by the harddrive. if this doesn't work try a few other games, once one works put the one you originally wanted to play back in.

Xbox 360 is loud - sounds like a loud fan motor. How can I make it run quietly?

You can try installing the game you want to play on the Xbox 360 Hard Disk, which reduces the motor noise to an extent, however there is no permanent way to fix the loud fan motor noise while playing the game with the disk in the drive.

Make sure you keep your Xbox 360 unit well ventilated, ensure it does not gather dust near the small vents and openings on the unit.

Disk reading error

Hi,

this is a possible laser read problem.
Try an official DVD Movie. And also a music CD.
if it reads nothing at all, i,d suggest a laser head cleaner.
Or a replacement DVD Drive.
