Go to Control Panel - - - - - - -> Personalizaton- - - - - - -> Display Settings.

Their you get the option of changing your Display Resolution as per your requirement.

I think 1440 x 900 will be the optimum settings for your monitor.

Note with wide screen monitors you will be able to select non wide screen resolutions so you may need to adjust the settings to get the best resolution for your monitor. Also it is recommended that you install any drivers for your monitor so that the video card can communicate to the monitor properly for the best display settings.

How to change your Windows 7 display settings

In Windows 7 there are serveral ways to get to your display settings. I have detailed them below in options so that you can access them as needed.

Option 1

Right click on your desktop and select "Screen Resolution"
80a15e1.png
Option 2

1. Right click on your desktop and select "Personalize"

2. Next click on "Display"

3. Click on "Adjust resolution"

198b5a3.png
Option 3

1. Click the Start button and click Control Panel

2. Next click on "Display"

3. Click on "Adjust resolution"
Once you are in the Screen Resolution you can set the resolution you want.

Note the resolution that is set now is a wide screen resolution. If you have a standard monitor the equivalent resolution would be 1280 x 1024.

After you have made the needed changes click on Apply then OK to save your changes.

Note if you are still have trouble with your monitor displaying right you may need to install the monitor drives. Windows is not going to have the actual drivers for all monitors. So in picture below you will see where is shows "Generic PnP Monitor" this means that the computer is using a generic driver. You can access this screen by clicking on "Advance Setting".

If you need to install the monitor drivers the link below will take you through the steps of installing the monitor drivers.

Change the screen resolution in the Control Panel for the Display.

Click Start/Control Panel and look for Display or Appearance and Personalization. When the Display opens select the Settings Tab. Change the Resolution by setting it up higher, click Apply then click OK.

You could Right Click on an open area on your desktop and select Properties. When the Display opens select the Settings Tab. Change the Resolution by setting it up higher, click Apply, then click OK.

I had turned the computer off in order to correct another problem, and when the computer came back on, my FONTs are very large, Icons and the inside programs as well. How can I change it back to normal?

From your description it sounds like your screen resolution changed on you. To change just right click on a blank spot on the desktop or control panel - display. Then click on the setting tab (right side top) and on this page in the middle should be display settings with a slider bar. Just move that to the right to increase the resolution. 1024 by 800 or higher is probably what you want. The actual number depends on the monitor your have. On my older lcd I use 1280x1024 as an example. The higher the resolution the smaller and sharper everything looks. The sharper it is the easier it is on your eyes. So you should go as high as you can which is usually limited by being able to read whats on the screen. ;-]

Changing Computer Language to English in Windows XP If you bought your computer with Windows XP in some other language set as default, you need not worry. You can always change it using the Control Panel. English, along with several widely used languages, is present in almost all Windows XP installations. You only need to set it up so that your copy of Windows XP works with English.
The following steps explain how to change computer language to English in Windows XP.
1. Open Control Panel and double click on the Regional and Language Options icon.
2. In the first tab, Regional Options, select English (US), English (UK), or any other English (there are many versions of English pre-loaded) as per your wish. The option is available in the first drop down list under Standards and Formats (see Fig 1). You may also click the Customize button next to the drop down to customize the format of date, time, currency etc.
3. Click on the next tab, Languages and then click the button labeled Details. In the Text Services and Input Languages dialog box, you can see all the installed languages. Select English in the list of available languages under Default Language Settings (Fig 2).
4. To create a keyboard shortcut for switching among installed languages, use the Key Settings under Preferences (Fig 3). Please note that you can also use the Language bar to switch among languages. Click OK to close the dialog box.
5. To set English as the default language for the particular user account, click on the Advanced tab of Regional and Language Options dialog box. Make sure English is being displayed in the drop down box and check the last option in the dialog box (See Fig 4).
6. Click OK to close the dialog box and logoff for the settings to take effect.
Though this is the most common method used to change the computer language to English in Windows XP, it only changes the GUI and sometimes creates problems with few applications such as Internet Explorer and Outlook Express. If you are facing such problems, you can download MUI patches from MS download center.
NOTE: The above method is often considered as a temporary solution when you have to use different languages. To change the computer language to English in Windows XP so that it has a system wide affect, it is recommended that you perform a fresh install of Windows XP and select English when prompted for language during installation. Later, you may install other languages as required.

My monitor goes to sleep and I would like it to stop. I can't figure out how to accimplish this. Karen

That's probably a Windows setting. For Windows XP:
1. Right-click the desktop.
2. select properties
3. go to the screen saver tab in the window that opened
4. check wether the screen saver is set to "None" If not, do so.
5. Click the "Power" button
6. In the window that opened, set Turn off monitor to never.
7. You're done!

For Vista and Windows Seven:
1. Right-click the desktop,
2. In the windos that opened, click personalize,
3. Click screen saver (bottom right)
4. In the window that opened, set the screen saver to "None"
5. Click "Change power settings"
6. In the window that opened, click "Choose when to turn off the display"
7 Set "Turn of the display" to Never.
You're done!
