Maybe the networks are not broadcasting, and are hidden. Also you may not be close enough to them, the most common wireless routers only extend signal 500ft. Test and confirm by visiting a free local wifi hotspot or known broadcasting wireless network.

My laptop wont find my wireless adapter. i downloaded the driver and installed it but its still not working

First the wireless card driver needs to be installed in the laptop.
The router's SSID, passphrase (ie encryption) is configured in the router's wireless configuration. This information is needed to configure the wireless card in the laptop so it can connect to the wireless router.
Please click on this link for my instructions on how to secure your wireless network, configure the wireless router and the wireless card in the laptop ;-

you should check the compatibility of the drivers you are installing with your windows xp, it may be designed for vista or 7, then If it is already compatible, try to plug the card first and then run the setup.

D Lin Air Plus G Utility will not open

What is the operating system on the computer ?
You said that you installed the drivers on the computer for the adapter.
If the OS is Win XP or VISTA then you don't need the utility to connect to the network.
Windows has it's own utility to connect to the network.
go to start = go to control panel = go to network connection = you will see wireless network connection
if you right click and go to view available wireless network.
First check the Device Manager.
Click Here for more info about the networking

D-Link AirPlus DWL-G630 - problem after installing XP SP3 and new drivers

You might have a problem with this one because it is a wirelss B card (10 mbs). Most networks are connected to wireless G(54 mbs). Some networks will allow b and g as mixed signals if the router was setup that way.

Thats one of the reasons why D-Link hasn't supported that card for about 4 years now. They have drivers for it on their ftp server but they probably don't work in Vista as well as SP3.

You should upgrade to a wireless G card. The Actiontec modem can be set for mixed b and g as well.

Problem with D-Link DWL-AG660 Wifi card

it seems you've reinstalled the device driver and some files have been conflicted. press ctrl+shift+esc it will open task manager select error task> right click it> go to process "note the process name" go to run>"msconfig" and disable the same process. it'll atleast prevent that utility to lunce. *otherwise, Uninstall the driver and software from add/remove program of controll panel, *delete all the related registry keys *install the device as per the manufacture instruction thanks Arun
