Question about Whirlpool GU2400XTP Built-in Dishwasher
Unit started to blink 7 times, could not reset. Could not initiate wash. Entered di (sani-rinse, heated dry, sani, heated) and cycled through diagonstic procedure. No. 3 proved to produce a humming sound but no movement.
Diagonstic cycle completed. Smells a bit like burnt wiring. No smoke evident. Was it from Number 3?
All LEDs have been cleared. Dishwasher can start cycle but still hums. I cancelled the cycle.
Prior to failing, dishwasher motor was getting louder and louder. Dishes were not getting cleaned. Used vinegar wash, different detergents, to no avail. Carefully took bottom assembly apart from the inside (not underneath) and cleaned out screen. Worked well for a month, and then became noisy and finally failure (7 led lights blinking).
What is wrong with this three year old machine?? I am willing to fix it myself, just need directions on what to replace and where I can get step by step instructions.
Thanks in advance!

If the clean light flashes 7 times, pauses, then repeats...
When the dishwasher doesn't sense a water temperature increase, it stops working and locks the functions (clean light flashes 7 times, all buttons are non responsive). It does this as a safety in case the element is broken and feeding electrical current into the water.
To resolve this you will have to reset the console. Do this by closing the door and press these buttons in sequence...
-high temp wash
-high temp wash
...all the lights will turn on briefly and the machine will start a diagnostic cycle. You can press cancel or let the diagnostic cyle finish (1-2 minutes).
You should now be able to run the dishwasher as normal.
If the issue returns, you could have a problem with the heating circuit (ie. element, thermostat or wiring).
It rarely happens but it could also be the door switch not engaging properly when the door is closed (slightly bend the door latch down making sure it doesn't hit the door when you close it).

Control is programmed to stop
running and not allow any
further cycles if it detects a
water heating problem (no
temperature increase detected
in heated Main Wash on
3 consecutive cycles). Control
blinks the Clean LED 7 times
repeatedly and disables the
Start/Resume key until
Running Diagnostics clears the
control and allows it to operate
again. The water heating problem
must be fixed or the control will
stop running again. See potential
Heater circuit problem:
■ Open in heater.
■ Open connection or
component in heater circuit.
■ Faulty heater drive circuit on
1. Check operation of heater in
2. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect
3. Check resistance of heater and all
components and connections in the
water heating circuit or heat dry
dont forget to vote hope this helps thank you

My solution to this problem was to simply unplug the power from the wall for a few seconds...plug back in, try to cycle again and the wash cycle starts fine now. May have been caught in a cycle loop or something. Any way this solution worked for me hope it works for someone else.

Have Whirlpool GU1500XTLT1 with exact same symptoms, even tried power off but the lights resumed blinking when powered back up. Used solution from "kent168" of 17 Nov 2010 for similar GU1500XTLS1 with a different problem, and IT WORKED: "Reset the machine: press control buttons in this sequence: sani rinse, air dry, sani rinse, air dry, clear."
