Don't -- you could be granting "write" and "delete" access to any hacker on the Internet.

Why can't I print on cloud print with my canon inkjet mp830. It keeps saying "printer offline"

Hi, you may find that opening port 5222 in your router settings corrects this for you. This is due to Google Cloud Print (GCP) needing to poll your printer, if the port is not open then GCP will not get a response from your printer, therefore will show it as offline.

It is also possible that your firewall is blocking communications so you would need to open the same port (5222) in your firewall / antivirus software.

Warning: Ports are often closed on a router to help prevent unauthorized access to your home network. Opening any additional ports on your router may decrease the overall security of your network.

  1. To use port forwarding first determine the local IP address of the computer or device you are forwarding the port to.
  2. Open your router configuration / settings menu.
  3. Once in the router configuration locate the port forwarding settings, often in a section such as Applications & Gaming or Port forwarding. I would suggest that if you are having difficulties with this to refer to your router documentation or call their support line.
  4. You will only need to open port 5222.
  5. Give your new rule a name that you will recognise.
  6. Next enter the port number 5222, if you are asked for Externet and Internet enter 5222 in both.
  7. The protocol is TCP.
  8. Next is the IP address of the computer.
  9. Don't forget to check the enabled box if there is one and save changes.
If you have any issues with this I would suggest Port Forward web site where specific instructions should be available for your router.

Xbox360 live setup

You need to forward these ports on both your router, and computer aswell as firewall you got one of those.

  • Port 88 (UDP)
  • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
  • Port 80 (TCP)

You might aswell need to open 1863 (UDP and TCP) if you want to use video chat for the kinect.
Listed ports need to be forwarded when connecting to XBOX Live
A more detailed guide to setting it up is available here: http://support.xbox.com/en-us/xbox-360/networking/network-ports-used-xbox-live

How do go about solving Filemaker pro 11 advanced Instant Web Publishing error that there is another filemaker pro runing and it cannot turn it on?

Can you please provide more details? Is the database hosted on a FileMaker server? Or are you trying to share it out via a computer with a static IP address?

Difference between hub and server

Hub, sometimes referred to as a concentrator or repeater Hub, refers to a networking2_bing.gif component which acts as a convergence point of a Network, allowing the transfer of data packets.

In its simplest form, a hub works by duplicating the data packets received via one Port, and making it available to all ports, therefore allowing data sharing between all devices connected to the hub.

A networknetworknetwork serverserverserver is a computer that provides various shared resources to workstations and other servers on a computer networknetworknetwork. The shared resources can include disk space, hardware access, and email services. Any computer can be a “networknetworknetwork serverserverserver.” What separates a serverserverserver from a workstation is not the hardware, but rather the function performed by the computer. In general, a workstation is any computer used by an individual person to perform his or her job duties, while a networknetworknetwork serverserverserver is any computer that provides users with access to shared software or hardware resources.

Deleted/missing client details

Sheldon, The data might really be gone. There are several reasons you might lose data with Filemaker 7 including the file being closed unexpectedly due to power failure, so the application doesn't close the file properly, or the Filemaker application unexpectedly quitting. However, the data might still be recoverable in this scenario. Under the File menu there is a recover command you can try that will create a new "Recovered" file from the current one. Additionally, I strongly recommend you start a daily incremental back up for your FileMaker database files. While corruption issue are rare, accidentally deleting a record, or information in a field, or purposeful sabotage by an unhappy employee is permanent without a backup. Additionally, a back up would provide a solution for recovering the data in the event client data disappears in the future.

I hope I've done a good job answering your question. I am a FileMaker 7 expert (and 8, 9, and 10 as well); if you have any additional questions I will do my best to answer them. If my answer was helpful for you I'd appreciate a 5 thumbs up rating, or a click on the yes this was helpful button. Thank you!

Need to set port forwarding for filemaker to network

Port forwarding is a process that you set up on your router and is independent from your OS.
Go here, and select the router you are using. On the next page (after skipping that annoying ad) you will see a list for different software setup's. Depending on you router, you might find Filemaker in the list.
(I checked Linksys WRT54G, and found it.)
Filemaker Server and FileMaker Pro with TCP/IP are using port number 5003with both the UDP and TCP protocols when communicating via TCP/IP.
UDP is only used for the initial contact, all other TCP/IP communication is using TCP.

There is a good video description, which I highly recommend if you're new to this. You can find that here.

If you have more questions, come back here or head over to filemakertoday.com, which has an excellent forum and the guys know what they are talking about.

Good luck!

Can only print one label when I set up Avery Labels

Hi. Look at the label contents. I believe the top corners of the group is touching the header. Meaning it should only print 1 time.
Make the content smaller and be sure it is inside the body area.

Filemaker Server 8 can't open file

Hi Jermia,
a bit late for the answer, but maybe it can help others...

This usually means the file has not been closed properly following a hard shutdown of the server (power outage?). It could be that the file needs to be recovered, or simply checked by Filemaker.
In both cases, you need to open the file with the client version of Filemaker Pro 8, then close it again, and the Server should happily open it thereafter. Here, we keep a copy of Filemaker client on the server for these rare occasions.
