GE Spacemaker Microwave

Model JVM140H002 I cannot figure out how to change the light bulb, not the one below that lights up the over and serves as the nightlight. I need to change the one that lights up the inside of the microwave. And, are there any restrictions on the bulb itself?

Are you kidding? Do I really have to pull the unit from the wall in order to change the microwave light bulb?! My husband has arthritic shoulders and I'm reluctant to try to do it "myself" - help!!!

On these models, the oven must be pulled from the wall mount, then the outer cover must be removed. This is apparently to limit the manufacturer's liability. Removing the microwave from the wall is really a two-person job, since it is heavy and awkward. You don't want it to fall or slip, and the edges can be sharp. It helps a lot if you saved the original installation instructions. Once the oven is out of the wall, you can then access the lamp socket. These bulbs are special halogen types that must not be touched by bare hands, since skin oils will shorten their life. GE Spacemaker Micro/Oven Need to change (inside) light bulb on model #JVM1490SH02 Serial # TH901044K. Where is the bulb located?

While replacing the cooktop light can be done by accessing the cover on the bottom of the oven, replacing the cavity light will require you to pull the oven from the wall and remove the outer cover.

The installation instructions are very handy in this case, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

The first step is to unplug the oven before changing bulbs!

I have a diagram at my site which helps you find & replace many GE cooktop and cavity light bulbs. It's at http://207.234.249.73/mwd/ge_lamp_replacement.jpg
