Question about Foxconn 760GXK8MC-S Motherboard

WINFAST 760GXK8MC motherboard problem

I have put together a brand new motherboard, RAM and Sempron processor. I connected an ATX power supply and tried to boot the board by touching the power button pins together. The fan came on but I got no video output. I checked the power supply and realised that I did not have the 12V power supply connected for the CPU. I connected this and tried to boot the board again. This time the fan started for about a second then stopped. After a couple more attempts to boot the board disaster struck as a surface mounted chip began to fry. This chip is a 5 pin device, a few mm in size and is located close to Q59 and Q65. It is the only one of its kind on the board. Have you any idea what has caused this chip to destruct and also what the chip is so that I can attempt to obtain a new one and replace it?

It's possible that while booting your motherboard without the 12V power connected you physically damaged some components which eventually lead to the chip burning up.  However, it is quite possible that this motherboard was defective as Foxconn has discontinued it.  I would recommend RMA'ing (return merchandise authorization) the motherboard back to Foxconn.  While no one wants to wait for shipping it is probably your best bet.  Even if you order the chip that has been damaged, and can properly solder it back in place, there will most likely be other physical damage that is not visible to the eye.  I would recommend another motherboard, and Foxconn has quality mobo's for around $50.  Try visiting www.newegg.com. Hope this helps :)

The controller will not turn on. Green light on back comes on but when we turn on the unit, the fan starts briefly and then the power cuts off.

Bad Power Supply. Weak Voltage power rail.

Not enough power to turn the Processor on, and keep it on.

1) ALL those LED lights together, use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts

3) A typical Processor can use 51 to 125 Watts. Depends on what Processor it is. (Older Processors use less Wattage)

The Compaq Presario SR1810NX desktop computer, comes with an AMD Sempron 3200+, processor.

[Maximum operating capability is a 1.8GigaHertz frequency rate.

When you press the plastic Power On button, you are contacting a Power On switch inside it.
(Typical ATX Power On switch,

http://www.directron.com/atxswitch.html )

When an ATX power supply is plugged into power, there is a 5 Volt Standby power, present inside the power supply.

Pressing the momentary contact power on switch, closes a circuit that directs the 5 Volt Standby power to 'excite' the power supply, and turn it on.

The first chip to receive power is the BIOS chip.
[Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit.
BIOS stands for Basic Input/Output System]

BIOS,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BIOS ]

BIOS looks to see what devices are installed, does a Ram Memory count, TURNS the Processor on, and hands the computer over to the Operating System.
(Windows XP is one example of an O/S. Operating System)

The LED lights receive power, so do the fans, and the Harddrive. When it's time for the Processor to kick on, there isn't enough power, and the Power Supply 'falls to it's knees'.

Replace the Power Supply.
It's just one of the basic ATX power supply's that are readily available in a multitude of places.
The Wattage is 300 Watts.

The ATX form factor for this power supply, (Size and shape), is approximately 6 inches Long, 6 inches Wide, and 3-1/2 inches Tall.

disconnect all external devices and then bypass the UPS and plug the power cables, monitor and computer, into wall socket outlets. Make sure and disconnect any ethernet cable as well.

Your motherboards RAM is not working properly. First you try getting it out and installing again. If that not work you can change with other one.

I assume you have tried with only one stick of ram individually at a time if you are using two to check it's not the ram as one faulty can cause the system to stop. Also assuming you bought the ram from the same place and is compatible with the board. Sometimes people also forget that the processor in some cases has to be powered by the 4 pin plug from the PSU and not just from the ZIF socket that older processors use to power up, so double check the manual. The other main common cause of the this problem is when you are putting together all the hardware onto the board, if you don't protect it underneath it may have overflexed the board and shorted or damaged the circuitry or the bios chip. That's not to say that the motherboard was'nt faulty in the first place.
