  • eddieg5085 Apr 24, 2009

tried booting from the recovery disk and a new copy of windows.I get to the point when the computer says "starting windows" and then nothing, it just freezes on that screen. Tried booting from another harddrive with windows already installed, same thing happens. I gets to the windows logo and freezes. Thank you

Hi,
Start your PC with the setup CD in a drive, and hit a key when you see the message "Press any key to boot from CD"
If instead of booting to the CD your PC boots from the hard drive, you may need to modify your PC's "boot order." It's easy and only takes a minute to make the change so that the PC will check for a bootable CD before trying to boot from the hard drive. It done from the BIOS setup screen.

Once your PC starts to boot from the CD, you'll see something like "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware..."

After a minute or two, you'll see the "Windows Setup/Setup is starting Windows" screen. Don't be alarmed.. It's still just the setup process running, and nothing's been changed on your PC yet.

Soon after above Screen, you'll be presented with the normal "Welcome to Setup" screen".

Hit Enter, just as if you were setting up Windows afresh and from scratch.

Press F8 to accept the licensing terms and to go on.

Next, the XP setup process will show another screen that you may recall from your initial setup of XP. It searches for "a previous version of Microsoft Windows." In our case, we're not replacing a previous version of Windows, but rather repairing the very same version that's on the setup CD--but that's OK; it's just another poorly worded screen.

Setup should find your damaged copy of XP and present it for repair

If your damaged copy of XP isn't highlighted in the list box, highlight it now. When it's selected, press R to start the repair process.

The Repair process then selectively deletes system files in the \Windows folder and subfolders and copies undamaged replacement files from the setup CD to their proper locations.

The system then needs to reboot and will do so automatically. If your setup CD is still in the drive, remove it so that the system won't try to boot from it.

The first Repair reboot will take longer than normal.

Please Don't be alarmed when Setup resumes. Once again, it will appear that you're performing a full, from-scratch setup; there's nothing on-screen to indicate that you're repairing an existing version of XP. But although the setup screens are the same as what you'd see in a full install, it's still a repair process, as will become clearer in a moment.

Follow the normal steps.

When this portion of the Repair is done, you'll see a "completing installation" screen

Setup then reboots your PC again, and this reboot will also take longer than usual. This is normal.

After the reboot, you'll be brought to an abbreviated version of the "Welcome To Windows" setup pages.

You'll be asked if you want to register and--depending on how badly hosed the previous installation was--you may or may not be asked to reactivate the copy of Windows. Next, the setup software handles the final networking details and then offers a "thank you" screen.

In most cases, the system will now reboot for a final time. The Repair is done. It's a normal boot, bringing you to the normal choices for login.

If all has gone as planned, you'll find all the user accounts and passwords intact, all the hardware devices set up as before, and all the previously installed software still installed and configured. In fact, if all has gone as planned, the only significant change will be that whatever problem your copy of XP was previously experiencing will now be gone!

Please let me know if this has been helpful to you and do not forget to rate the solution in case it was helpful to you.

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

Are there any other devices connected to the computer like Modem or USB printer or any other device? If there is then please make sure that the computer has only keyboard, mice and (obviously) power supply connected to it and nothing else.. Then try to boot using CD ..

Please let me know if there are any beep sounds from the computer CPU..

    Does that help?

    Regards,

    Srinivas

Hi. You can re-install Windows using the secret recovery partition hidden in your hard disk. You can start this process by pressing "CTRL+ALT+F10" when the Acer Screen shows up. And by following the steps, your Windows will be re-installed and everything should be clean after that. By the way, this solution is much more faster than re-installing Windows using a CD since all the recovery files are in the hard disk. But in case if this solution doesn't work for you, please let me know and I'll advice you some more. Hope this helps, have a nice day.

The special menu I was talking about should be like that:
    Steps: Turn the system on
Immediately, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10.
Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.
A screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery" should appear.
(Release ALT and stop tapping F10 at this point)
    There will be 4 options:
    1. Restore system to factory default
    2. Restore system from user backup
    3. Restore system from cd/dvd
    4. Exit

When i turn on my laptop it's starts loading the windows xp and all of a sudden it freeze. And also i wanna know where i can buy a new motherboard for my acer laptop aspire 5100.

You might want to go into the bios to turn off halt on all errors, except keyboard.also pressing escape befor it freezes may let you see what is causing the problem while booting up. Maybe come up in safe made,to eliminate lots of taxing stuff. unhook any new stuff you may still have attached. also make sure cd or dvd disk drives are empty.Good luck!

Boot your Vista recovery cd, then perform a System Restore from a restore point (do not select Install at this time).

Windows failed to start !...

Hi,
Boot your computer with the recovery CD In the Drive.
You should get the option ** Boot From CD**
highlight click Yes, and overwrite the O/S.
This will re-install windows over your existing version, replacing any corrupt-deleted-missing Files.
