Removal of Needle Plate - Bernina Deco 340

I cannot remove the needle plate on my Bernina Deco 340 embroidery machine.

The manual for the machine refers to one screw, when in fact there are 2 screws on the needple plate. I removed both, but still the needle platedoes not come away. The screw driver that comes with the machine only fits these 2 screws, even though there is another tiny little screw.

Can some one please offer some assistance.

Thanks

I have an old touch and sew and went online to find out how to fix the timing myself. It took a little time and patience, but I did it myself. Saved $135 from going to the repair shop.

If you're having the same problem we did, the attachment is installed too high on the bar. Move it down as far as possible and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn't, check to see whether the machine is belt-driven; did the belt break or slip off?

SOURCE: The thread in the bobin isn't comming up too the

Make sure the needle is facing in the correct direction
Put the bobbin in the bobbin case leaving a
2 to 3 tail.
Thread the top of the machine correctly, leaving a 3 to 4 inch
tail after threading the needle.
Hang on to the end of the upper thread and use the handwheel to drop the needle.
continue to turn the handwheel to raise the needle. Pull on the end of the needle thread and a loop of bobbin thread should come up.
make sure there is no lint or loose thread in the bobbin area

Bernina 1630 needle plate won't stay tight--when you put the plate on it moves around and is easy to take off

For heaven's sake Michael D. Hannan, do your home work, understand specific features of the machine and get your facts right before you mislead somebody with an incorrect answer: the Bernina 1630 needle plate is not fastened by screws but by spring clips.

To Anonymous,
If the needle plate was properly held down before, then you have either not replaced it correctly or you have removed it clumsily and bent the spring clips that retain it. Read the manual or follow my directions to remove and replace below.

First, examine the needle plate:
Pick up the needle plate and turn it over. Look at the two spring clips: they should be firmly fastened to the needle plate by the two small screws - if not, use a very small screwdriver to tighten them. Now look at the other end of the spring clips: the gap between the spring clips and the needle plate should be very close to 3mm. If significantly over that, the needle plate will not be held firmly. You cannot bend them back into place without removing them first.
25543442-pehiy0tulmvwe1t4xzm3pcfl-1-0.jpg Fix spring clips if damaged:
For each clip, you need to hold the end with the hole in a vice, right up to the first bend. Gently bend the rest of the clip bit by bit back to the correct position, testing each time you bend it. Refit the clip and repeat for the other. Don't use heat or you will destroy the elastic properties of the clip. If the clip is bent too far, it will break and you'll have to order replacements from your Bernina dealer.

How to remove the needle plate:
Open the bobbin cover. From the front of the machine and using your thumb, push up under the curved front edge of the needle plate just enough so the locating dowel comes out of the hole at the front left. Simultaneously slide the needle plate back a bit. Lift up slightly against so the curved front of the needle plate comes over the edge of the free arm casting. Slide the plate back a bit more to free it completely and you can then lift it out.

How to refit the needle plate:
Place the needle plate in the gap with the curved edge about 20 mm behind where it will end up. Slide the needle plate forwards until the curved edge comes up against the locating dowel and lift it sightly over the dowel. By this time the spring clips will be partly engaged. Now push the needle plate forwards from the rear until it goes forwards and drops into place. 25543442-pehiy0tulmvwe1t4xzm3pcfl-1-14.jpg 25543442-pehiy0tulmvwe1t4xzm3pcfl-1-20.jpg 25543442-pehiy0tulmvwe1t4xzm3pcfl-1-27.jpg I hope this helps. Foot and needle removed for clarity. Pictures taken on a Bernina 1030 which is the same in this area.

My Bernina Deco 340 does not pick the bobbin thread but keeps saying the top thread is broken

Check the needle timing. Go to bernina on the web and download the service manual for your model. The eye of the needle should be at the pick arm of the bobbin case Too early or late and it will miss the cotton.

Deco machine will not pick up bottom threat

try changing the needle--make sure the needle is the correct
one for the fabric being sewed

try rethread the machine top & bobbin--use every thread guide

clean under the needle plate & in the bobbin area for lint

it's also possible that the timing needs to be checked at a sewing
machine shop

Needle/Bobbin issues with Bernina Deco 600

Jim!

Perfect phrasing of the question, you have all the lingo/parts down pat!

First make sure your new needle is straight, then check to make sure it lines up in the center of the hole in the stitch plate.

There is basically a 1/2 sheet of papers (we use the fine waxy sticker backing paper as our guages don't fit well .1mm! ) distance between the hook and the needle.

Rotate your hook so that it is aligned with the needle in the center position, there should be 2mm between the top of the needle eye and the bottom edge of the hook.

Bernina Bernette 600 Deco embroidery machine

It could be that there is a loose piece of thread, or some fluff which is obstructing the tension gauge. Try blowing around the theading area (or even run the hoover pipe near it to see if you can **** it out). I cleared mine by folding a piece of non fluffy material and rubbing gently between the tension dial and machine.

Good luck
