Virus - No internet, no network, can't Restore

I came home Monday from work and my pc would not connect to the internet, no network / workgroup visible, and can't restore. I did a search to see if any files were created that day (thinking might have virus) and there were some at 11:41am when nobody was home. Some were svchost and in Cookies at that time it shows client156.faster-hosting(??). I ran MBAM, but had to change the .exe name as the virus was recognizing it. I finally installed and ran it and removed selected files, but said some could not be removed. When I do a Restore, I can select a Restore Point and go to Next screen, but that screen's Next is disabled, so can't restore. I was able to get it to restore once, but after reboot, it said restore unsuccessful. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. I run Win XP Home

Like you did before renaming the files (.exe) rename the files of the virus like you did before.

1) if not basically re format your whole computer simple.
2) download a trojan remover
3) find what the virsu is called and repost to me

if this didnt help please repost i will describe more if you kbnow the name of the virus.

Not Sharing pc for win 7

It may be because of the workgroup setting. WINXP uses a default workgroup value of MSHOME. WIN7 uses a default of WORKGROUP. What happens then is that all computers can connect to the network and access the internet, but shared files and folders will not be seen due to the two different workgroups,

To change the workgroup in WIN 7:

Click START.

Right click on COMPUTER, choose PROPERTIES.

In the SYSTEM window, choose ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS

in the SYSTEM PROPERTIES window choose the COMPUTER NAME tab.

Observe "Workgroup" name.
To change, click the CHANGE button

Put the new workgroup name in the WORKGROUP block
(WINXP default is MSHOME)

Click OK

Close all windows

You will need to restart PC to set the new workgroup

I want to start a network between my laptop and desktop

There are lots of guides on the internet...
BUT as a minimum you will need...
All the computers on your home network connected through the same router (Wired or Wifi).
All the computers on the same "Workgroup"..Choose a workgroup name and change all the computers to the same workgroup.
You will then need to change the properties of any drive/folder or files to enable sharing.
You can also drag stuff into the shared folder.
This can still be quite hit and miss, especially if your computers are using different versions of windows.
Good luck

Pc won't connect to printers or internet on existing LAN network. shows ip is connected but won't load webpage or print.

Verify your pc is in the same workgroup. You can do this in the control panel, systems. You will need to reboot after you make a change in workgroups. (If you need to make the change.) If you are in the same workgroup, go into your command prompt windows, and type "ipconfig /all" This will show you full configuration on your network. Good Luck.

Using multiple networks

if you are using windows 2000 or later start the routing and remote access service (make sure to set it to automatic) and that should solve your problem.

No internet on Wireless home network despite ''excellent'' signal

When Windows Wi-Fi utility reports available wi-fi networks, does yours show up? I would imagine so, if you're being prompted for the key, and you entered it. So, you should be connected to the LAN at that point.

Then it is a question of connectivity. Using "My Network Places", see if you can detect the other computers on the Local Area Network. If they don't show up, but all indicators say you are connected, right click on My Computer, then Properties. On the popup box, you will see "computer name", and beneath that, "workgroup". Make sure that computer is in the same workgroup as the rest of the network. If not, the bottom button will allow you to change the name of the workgroup.

If you can see the other computers on your network, but you just can't reach the internet, take a look at whatever firewalls you are running, and make sure that PC isn't being blocked by one of them. An easy way to check is to temporarily turn all of them off, and see if things start working.

Also, if you can access your hub (using the web interface), check there and see if the Dell desktop is showing up as a connected device at the router.

I would almost bet it is a workgroup issue, but if it isn't, let me know. There are several other things we can take a look at.

Cheers
Nick

Home network problem.

In order to resolve this concern just disable or configure your firewall and anti virus to allow the file sharing between those 2 computers and after that ping each computer if its replying but still cannot see the shared documents, do a power cycle turn off everything for 30 seconds and power them back after 30 seconds and that should make everything work....

Don't forget to rate the soluiton FIXYA thank you......

How to i configure my system Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO to allow a home network to see all the PC on the netwrok plus my Network Storage. My internet conection works fine?

For each of your computers, right click on 'My Computer' then click on 'Properties'.

Under the 'Computer Name' tab, make sure each of your computers are members of the same workgroup ID. Just make a name up and use it for all of your computers.

The information that you want to be shared between your network computers should be placed in the 'shared' folder.

After doing this, make sure all of your computers are running and that they each have a working internet connection.

Go to My Network Places, click on view workgroup computers.
You should be able to see all of the computers in your network.

As far as configuring the router goes, if you haven't changed the settings in the past, Nothing should have to be altered in order to view other computers on your network.

Lenovo R60 connection problems

Stefanus, First off go to the command prompt, enter ?ipconfig /flushdns? and hit enter. Then try browsing the Internet. Lots of odd issues involving Internet connection failures are DNS related. Sometimes flushing the local PC cache helps. If that fails in the same command prompt enter ?ipconfig /all? and hit enter. Find the section that pertains to the network adaptor you are connecting to your network with. Find and supply us with the IP addr, subnet mask, default gateway IP and dns servers IP. Also are you using XP Home or Pro? Once you respond we?ll pickup from there.
