Shut-off the water, pull the handle and the spout. change the 2 "O"ring and make sure the spout body has no dirt in them. apply some the plumbing grease bewteen the spout body. put everything back.

How does one remove the cap (w/ straight indents for a wrench) above the O-ring? It just spins.

About the only thing that can be done is to replace the inside of the faucet. You can pick a kit up at a Home Depot or a hardware store. Cost of 10-15 dollars and it is not that hard to do.
Hope this helps

Faucet will not swivel

if your faucet is new....the spout was put together wrong and it needs to be removed and re-attached correctly...(friction washer/ring in wrong position).....if not new....spray some penetrating oil on the connection that is supposed to swivel....make sure the surface is dry and try to avoid overspray. let it sit for 15 min...then spray it again...and again let it sit ....after sitting for a few minutes.....gently try to move the spout side to side...if no change...repeat the first processs...and continue to repeat until it becomes moveable....once moveable....detach the spout.....dry out and remove any foreign matter from the connection side on the faucet...then apply a small amount of faucet grease to the connection threads and the inside barrel....a thin even coat ...excess grease will clog your aerator...don't use too much....now repeat the cleaning and lubricating process on the removed spout connector....reassemble.....remove aerator....turn on the water and flush....replace the aerator....turn water on full blast....check for leaks and for swing...it should swivel now ....if not...loosen the connection nut a tad and try again....if still no swing....you are missing a friction ring somewhere in the connection and it needs to be replaced before you will be able to swing the spout.....good luck...

Am installing a new American Standard faucet. Does it need to be lubed prior to installation?

I think American Standard probably is correct, especially if there is a history of swivel faucets seizing over time.

Our American Standard kitchen faucet has become hard to swing from one side of the sink to the other. What could be causing this? Is there a bad part?

Hi! If there are no leaks from around the spout, you can remove the spout and apply silicone lube to the spout o-rings and resemble. If it is still hard to move ,replace the o-rings.

The unit will now swivel from side to side. It has frozen up. How do I disassemble the faucet? I've removed the two set screws and the nut at the top of the shaft. What next? Your assistance is...

If you have the handle and retaining nut removed and there is nothing to keep the spout from being removed then at this point it comes down to getting a little rough with it. Try to force to spout to move from side to side while pulling up at the same time. If you can get some sort of spray lube between the spout and the faucet body do so let it set for awhile and go at it again. Don't try to move it very far at a time and be patient (easy for me to say) it will come loose.
Good luck

We have a Moen kitchen faucet (single lever). The spigot swivels VERY hard. What can be causing this?

You will need to put some plumbers grease on the orings under the spout.

The swing mixer handle has become very stiff. how do i get it off to clean it/

The first solution is of course correct. However I found it almost impossible to remove the spout assembly. It was very stiff and it was difficult to get any leverage to force it off without damaging the finish to the tap as a whole or damaging the sink.

What I found was that if you poured boiling water over the tap/faucet it eased the stiffness and having done this several times - ie about 5 kettle loads of hot water, I managed to remove the spout. It helps if you reconnect the hose directly to the outlet under the sink (ie not via the faucet). THis allows you to run cold water through the tap whilst pourung boiling water over the outside of the tap. The cold water shrinks the copper/brass components whilst the hot water expands the spout assembly.
Once off, it is possible to clean the inside of the assembly to remove corrosion or calcium deposits to say nothing of old "O" rings.

I also used a kettle descaler between dousing with boiling water in the hope that some of it would seep down within the assembly.

It took me three attempts to do this. I was almost going to spend UK pounds 430 or US dollars 670 and buy a new unit. So do not give up and I hope this helps.
It swings backward and forward now perfectly.

I have a Moen Single Handle kitchen faucet, it's leaking at the base and below the neck (where is swivels for the faucet to move side to side). How do I fix it?

Replace the "O" rings that are behind the spout portion. You will have to remove the top of the faucet and pull up on the spout section. There will be a couple of "O" rings there. It is best to have Moen send the parts to you as locating the proper size "O" rings can be difficult.
