Didn't work, now what, software uninstalled?

  • mohalavt Oct 26, 2007

OK, that didn't work.  I do not see any other 'drives' other than c,d.a and scanner in my computer, should there be a drive showing for the camera.

One other thing, when I turn the camera to the download setting the light flashes twice then doesn't again, unlike normal downloads where it continues to flash until the download is complete.  Help?

Remove the Camera software. Assuming the camera is OK Windows ME/2000/XP/Vista will see the camera without software. Try it and come back

    Software Uninstalled- OK
This is a ME/2000/XP computer yes?
Then with the camera switched on and operating and correctly plugged in Windows should put up the Scanner/Camera Wizard ask you what to do about the images.
If it does not- with camera still plugged in etc., reboot the computer.
    OK now?
Go to my computer ans see if an additional drives is showing- that is if you have normal A C D drives then 'E' drive should show if you other drives then the next letter
Come back when you have tried all that.

This then is a camera fault on the main board.

Actually- camera working or not the bestway to get images into a computer is through a card reader and not the camera.
so 2 things - 1. junk the camera at this age no repair is likely
and  2 when buying the next camera buy a card reader- they are quite cheap,

There are several ways of getting images off a card.
But it depends on your location and what exists there.
Local processing station - here in the UK for example many large supermarkets and drug stores have them- you take the card in and either the staff there will do it and put them on to a CD for you or many are self service.
Anything like that where you are?
Or a friend with a computer that you can hook up to.
    The card reader already mentioned.
Purchase another card to fill whilst the download problem is resolved.
Coming back to the problem- from what you have said in the begining my response -   You will have to follow the adivce  to remove the card and get images off by the methods described.

Trouble downloading pics

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.

Bad news is that this is a CCD sensor problem and you need a new one installed. Good news though is that Canon will fix this free of charge so contact them.

Problems when connecting Canon Powershot A70 - Cannot find program to upload pix

The popup would be the windows wizard wanting to assist with downloading image files. There's 2 popups one is the wizard and you'll click on transfer images & it walks you step by step to download the images. The other one is just a one click option & you can copy the images files to your computer. But since those options don't seem to work for you - one solution would be to click on "my computer" and you'll either find your camera or memory card listed along side your computers C drive. If you're downloading images from the camera - it needs to be hooked up via the cable + the camera probably needs to be turned on. Some cameras also have a setting or button to turn in order to download the images.
