PC won't boot on customn built machine

iI built the pc 4yrs ago with no problems till 2 months ago. the pc would 'hang' on boot up checking the memory. and things started to go slower and slower until they stopped altogether. I increased the memory from 512 to 1gig changed the HD. I get no beeps from POST on starting. The motherboard and pc fans switch on the cd, dvd, tape driver floppy all indicate there's power supply. I have changed the HD x2 and video card. don't know what else to try. anyone help out? ould apreciate so much. got a lot of famlily stuff on the hd and no not backed up to any other media - fool me!

take the HDD to a PC service shop the'll do a backup of it even though any problems exists it will cost you around $200/HDD

You could buy a decent PC brand new for about $300 and then just slave the other HD so that you can at least get your stuff off of it. I recently purchased a PC ,320 gig HD ,AMD 64 core 2 duo, 2 gigs of ram with Vista and a 17" HD monitor for $499 so I can't see spending major money on service when you can get a new one and then do it yourself.

Sounds your motherboard is gone, my solution to you is to remove the hard drive, place it on another computer as a secondary drive or slave and go into my computer and you will see your hard drive there as secondary ,, now you can go in to it and save your data to a disk or do a back up onto a cd. please advice.
