Question about Canon PIXMA MP600 all-In-One InkJet Printer
This problem has been pissing me off for quite some time. My printer is
brand new and rarely used. And the comments I've read about Canon
reaction to this engineering problem has left me mystified. I will
never buy another canon printer.
So ... with that said. I must add that after 3 tries at experimenting with the masking tape fix, I have finally found it to work! ... I tried several combinations of taping, with no success. What finally worked was adding 3 layers of standard electrical tape to the left and right sides at the bottom of the cartridge. Do not wrap it around the front or back, only along the sides. This is what i finally got to work. Good luck ... and boo to Canon for this one.

My dad is having this same problem and has been for the last 5 months. It's not from the printer being new it's a defect in the engineering of the printer cartridge older. The yellow cartridge (being the middle) doesn't snugly fit and so it wiggles around losing it's connection with the printer. I fixed this by taking making tape and taping around the base of the cartridge. It's a tight fit and it doesn't disconnect itself ever. Hope this helps!

I needed to use the fax function so I bought a new Cyan ink. Then I call Canon and got one sent after. I had used only about 50 times on this new machine and mostly for faxing. This model Mx700 has a problem with the circuit board on their inks. Or they are set up to fail after about a year of service causing us to spend lots of money on ink!

I also had the "the following ink tank cannot be recognized" error on my Canon MP600. I did as the guest poster above said, and Canon is sending out a replacement ink tank immediately. Thanks for the useful site, and good job on this one Canon.

Okay....I just got off the phone with Canon Tech Support. Call 1-800-385-2155. He will need the serial number (located behind the ink tanks), your name, address, phone number, and the date of purchase. He had me remove all ink cartridges and unplug wire from printer. Then about 45 seconds later replug to see if error corrects itself. It did not. He then said he would send me a new ink tank. When I get the new one, take the old one out and store in a ziploc to use after the new one is out of ink. He also said that the mp600 is the printer that he gets the least amount of calls on. This error occurs when this printer is new. Only a few calls on this and paper jams for this printer. He says it's a good model. So, call him and get you a new ink cartridge!
