Make sure fuel pump works, the little bubber valve inside can come off causing poor suction? If you blow air in the tank, and that makes it run more , fuel pump is like a double check valve. Allowing gas to move only forward towards the carb.

sounds like the spark plug may be fouled or the fuel filter or carburetor is dirty.

you may have a safety switch that has went bad or came unhooked. unplug and test for continuity. also under the hood you will see a fuse, check to see if that has blown. if all that is good you may want to unhook the coil try to start it and see if it has fire. it is possible the coil has went bad. hope this gives you an idea where to start

My craftsman 42in rider quits after about 30 to 45 minutes. The carb solenoid is good and the gas cap is venting ok. I have to wait about 20 to 30 minutes before it will start again. What should I check...

try the coil, does it get fire to the sparkplug after it quits and what color is the spark? blue spark is good, red is weak fire, and not enough to fire the engine up.

Runs good for a few minutes then acts like it runs out of gas.

have you checked to see if the fuel filter line has been changed in a while ? If not change this , if you are still having problems could be the float or the jet within the carb

Craftsman garden tractor stalls after running for about 20 minute

do you have the right fuel filter? some are for pressure and some are for gravity feed, the pressure type (fuel pump) wont flow the gas correctly. another possibility would be the coil.

Spitting and sputtering

mine did the same, I found out that the high speed jet was clogged, I pulled the fuel line off the filtor(going to the carb), stuck the line into a mixture of half gas half carb cleaner, I fanned it up and in 2 or 3 minutes it started running well, hope this helps.

Try changing the its oil-seals. The problem lies there. It may be damaged or the oil-seals are now smaller than its is used to and it is because of the heat. The oil-seal are rounded things that are made of rubber.

18hp/ohv craftsman 42in wont crank

One thing to check, see if there is a piece of root stuck under the tractor there is interrupting any of the security features from allowing the tractor to start. It might be a small piece that stops a plunger from engaging.
