2004 BMW X5 4.4i Left lights on resulting in flat battery. Car was jump started from another vehicle (Ford Transit van). Everything fine for a few days. Now, intermittently the radio/sat nav goes haywire! The screen flips open and closed on it's own over and over again to reveal the tape deck, the screen flickers on and off, it jumps from CD to radio to sat nav, screen displays 'monitor shutting down due to high temperature'? all this even when I've taken the keys out of the ignition and the car is locked. It eventually stops and everything will be back to normal the next time I get in the car, then it all just happens again after no particular length of time using the CD player, radio etc. Drove to work this morning with the radio turned off but sat nav on and the problem DIDN'T happen. Please help!

OK, long story but here it goes (hopefully the length will help with ... I hook the jumpstarter up to the battery, let it sit 1-2 minutes, then ... The AZ rep. tells me that my battery is at 9V and this is why my car .... Mein Auto: 2004 X3 2.5i ... If battery is original (2005) it is more than likely one cell has shorted out. Z4 starter motor and related problems.

I could not start my Z this morning after not driving it for the past 4 days because of the weather. All lights come on the dash including the head lights but it won't crank. ... Take an have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Guessing an replacing parts isn't the way . The charging system on your vehicle is computer controlled by the PCM - engine computer,. Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

something is draining the battery, I would check the earth wire from the battery "black one" ensure this has a good contact with the van body. Is this a UK version of the transit? if so the battery is under the drivers seat. Fords have lots of issues with poor earth wores.

could be a sign that the computer is failing-though they usually are durable--try disconnecting batt a few minutes and see if it clears and chec for any wiring flaws--get vehicle scanned also--reprogramming a computer should be done before buying a new one

Do an aquiesent discharge test, using a multi meter set to 10amps disconnect the neg terminal of the battery and put the meter in line, (poss lead to neg of battery and neg lead to neg lead to battery or earth point). there should be very little drain, just the memory for the radio etc just a few milliamps any more like 1 amp or more and you have something like a boot light stuck on window lifter motor stuck on raise etc,, it could also be a duff plate in the battery, get a deep discharge test done at a quick fit place, this will test the battery's capacity to hold a charge under load.
