Question about Computers & Internet

Microsoft Problems! I bought Microsoft Office X for Mac and installed it. I've had it for a while now, but all of a sudden, when I click on Entourage or Word, a box comes up saying: "Ignore, Report..., or Relaunch. I relaunch and report to Apple and everything but it still won't open. I've restarted my computer, gotten rid of the icon off my dock and replaced it, tried to go through spotlight and click it but nothing ever works! Also, my excel disappeared when I know I never deleted it. Everything related to MICROSOFT is messed up except for Powerpoint and MSN.

    MacBook Pro & MSO X?

  • MacInAction May 11, 2010

Disregard the previous advice. The Office suite is not an operating system. It belongs in the Applications folder of the OS X partition. Placing it elsewhere is asking for future problems. If you decide to run Windoze, or better yet, Linux, the partitioning scheme MUST be implemented before installation can work. Each OS requires a unique disk format for installation.

Since this is an old post, I doubt you still need help. If you do, I need the exact message that displays concerning the "Ignore, Report..., or Relaunch." What is it asking to ignore or report?

Clicking "Report" sends information to Apple in case an update needs to be written to debug a problem. It will not do anything to fix the problem now. The "Relaunch" option would be the best, but it sounds as if you have some corrupted preferences that need to be trashed. Error message clarification is needed to determine the next step.

it seems a bit strange to spoil mac with microsoft progs- but if you want to do so, think about partitioning the mac-harddisk and have a macOS on one partition and a microsoft one on the other, so you can use whatever you do need and don't have to mix the both of them and avoid future problems. you will have to establish a multiboot system, but how that work on mac i don't now. perhaps using linux boot manager lilo. you may have to ask someone mac-literate. any future macproblems please post to the mac-corner of this board. thx

How do I rebuild the outlook 2011 for mac email database?

Hi Scott
I am a Mac User also.
Ran my own Mac repair business for 18 years...
I remember this particular problem with Entourage/Outlook for Mac
I stopped using Outlook & Office years ago because it goes corrupt when too many emails are stored in the email data file. About the 1gb file size. A well known problem. I use Apple Mail these days. Note..It will Import emails from Entourage.
All this data is kept in the Microsoft User Data folder inside Documents Folder... if my memory is correct.
Make a backup copy of this folder if you can... before fiddling.
I used a Microsoft Utility Program called "Microsoft Database Utility" to fix and clean up the Email data file. Then Entourage opened up the email again and I got rid of excessive emails containing photos.
I don't even have MS Office installed on this Mac any more but I have located "Microsoft Database Utility" program which is about 2.3mb in size. It's probably inside your MS Office / Office folder already. Use Apple Spotlight to search or... a free program called EasyFind works great.
Open the program and point it to the Microsoft User Data folder where Entourage email data file is located. To locate the actual email data file...Use "Cmd I" to find size of suspect file. The email data file is a Fairly big one.
I am using a 2007 MacBook Pro running OSX 10.9 Maverics with the free "Pages" for reading Word Doc's & "Numbers" for Excel SS and it all works seamlessly. Dont have a need or want to pay for MS Office anymore as it never got many updates anyhow.

Hope this Fixes your Problem
Cheers
Trevor

On Side Subject.... Depending on age of your Mac...You can get Maverics OSX10.9 for free. Download the flu .DMG file. Use CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner from Bombich Software) to do a full Clone Backup of your current Mac HD to another external hard drive before installing new clean OSX 10.9 system then you get asked to Migrate your old system data back and you end up with a new Mac and all your data in place. Get free "MacTracker" to get your specific Mac Specs & what max OS it will go up to.

I installed a new router and cannot get email on entourage. I have had a mail and it dissappears after a few seconds.

This would have nothing to do with your router. Check and see if you have another device setup to check email for this account. It may be that another device is checking your email, and then removing it from the server so on the 2nd device it seems to "disappear" Online Virus Removal 39 99 Online Virus Removal and Online PC Help

Hi I have a problem with entourage. The icon is still there and entourage opens when I hit the icon but all that comes up is the tool bar for entourage. When I run along the options on the tool bar ie...

one of the necessary files might have gotten deleted. If possible, I'd suggest attempting to reinstall entourage. If there's nothing dire that you would lose, or if everything is saved on mail servers (such as gmail or hotmail or something) it might be worth giving mail.app a shot, if that's an option.
http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads has links for downloads, depending on which version you have, downloading a trial for installation purposes and re-entering your serial might solve problems you might be having.

If reinstalling isn't possible and you absolutely have to have what was in your entourage, some of your information could be saved in /Users//Documents/Microsoft User Data
I don't use entourage personally so I'm not an expert on it.
They also stopped shipping Microsoft Office for Mac with entourage, the latest version with it is 2008, the Home and Student editions of Office 2011 for Mac do not come with a mail client at all, the business edition comes with Outlook.
Hopefully that helps a little bit. But like I said, I don't use entourage or else I'd probably be able to offer a more concise solution.

Want to wirless syn with a calendar & contact list for back up. what is the best program to use????

You can use the BlackBerry Desktop Manager to synchronize your organizer data
(calendar entries, contacts, tasks, notes, and memos) between your BlackBerry smartphone and your Mac computer.
In order to synchronize with Microsoft® Entourage, Apple® Sync Services functionality must be turned on in the
Microsoft Entourage application. To accomplish this, complete the following steps:-
note:-Back up information and data before changing any settings on your Mac computer.
1) If the BlackBerry smartphone is connected to the Mac computer, use the Eject option to remove the BlackBerry
smartphone from the Mac computer.
2) Close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
3) Open Microsoft Entourage.
4) On the Microsoft Entourage menu bar, go to Entourage > Preferences.
5)Within General Preferences, click Sync Services.
To turn on contact list synchronization, select the Synchronize contacts with Address Book and MobileMe check box
To turn on calendar synchronization, select the Synchronize events and tasks with iCal and MobileMe check box
note:- When Sync Services has been enabled and the OK button is selected, a new dialog window appears with the following choices:

1)Replace Entourage items with Sync Services items.
2)Replace Sync Services items with Entourage items.
3)Merge Entourage items with Sync Services items.
For Additional Information:-
Before the BlackBerry smartphone data is synchronized with the Mac computer, verify that Sync Services is turned
on in the Mac OS X iSync application. This is done by completing the following steps:
1)Open Applications on the Mac computer and click iSync.
2)In the iSync menu, click Preferences.
3)If necessary, select the Enable syncing on this computer check box.

Michael, if you have the option can you use IMAP instead of POP3 for your email server settings? If your email service provides IMAP you might try it as it may appear to work faster than POP3.
