Lawn Tractor Not Doing Anything When I Attempt To Start It

My craftsman 1000 lawn tractor started running poorly then I started having problems starting it. I replaced the battery and it worked for a little while then it stopped working again. I replaced the switch and it started working a little while and stopped again. I purchased a starter and replaced the old and it still didn't start in fact it didn't do anything, I noticed a burnt fuse, replaced that and it attempted to start but didn't, then eventually it was back to not doing anything when I attempt to start it? I appreciate your help...

No sir the fuse did not blow again, but I attempted to jump a cable from + side battery to starter, and when I attempted to connect other end to starter, I turned the key to the on position and it attempted to start, it kept going on and on but never started. I then touch the starter connection with the other end of the cable and still didn't turn over. I removed the cable from beneath the seat and attempted to start mower and nothing happened when I turned the switch. When I put the cable back under the seat it attempted to start when I turned the key...It seems that only when I have the jumper cable end connected under the seat on the positive battery post with it not connected anywhere else that it attempts to start, but never catches.

This morning I removed the gas tank cleaned the fuel filter, I am changing the oil and filter, I will be replacing the spark plug and I will spray carburator cleaner into the carburator to resolve that after I have done all of these things I will respond and let you know what is happening! Thank you

    Did the fuse blow again?

Have you checked all the battery cable connections? -- sometimes what looks like minor corrosion at a connection will prevent enough current from flowing that it will produce the symptoms you describe.

Let's try this. It sounds like you can get it to crank but it won't start. There is probably a fuel shutoff solenoid which is open only when someone is sitting in the seat. There is a switch under the seat so if the rider falls off the mower, the gas to the engine is shut off and the mower stops.

You can depress this switch by hand, or with tape, or whatever so you can start the engine without sitting in the seat.

Also, it sounds like you are clamping a jumper cable to the battery post and that allows the engine to crank. If I understand this correctly, it sounds lilke the connector on the battery post for the mower battery cable is loose, and when you clamp it, the battery cable connector is tightened and makes a good connection.

Sounds like two issues: fuel solenoid switch not closed when you're trying to start it; and a loose battery cable connector on the + battery post.

I think we're making progress -- let's keep working it.

I have Craftsman 42" lawn tractor with the automatic transmission. It runs fine but it is not pulling a grade now. The belt seems tight, what could be the problem?

As you attempt the incline grab the clutch pedal with your heel and pull it towards you if it starts pulling correctly you have a belt problem . If it makes no difference you are having hydro pump problems

Instructions for fixing the choke on a Craftsman LT-1000 lawn tra

I have been hearing alot of this problem. Well it is gravity flow. I just bought a 2002 lt1000 17 hp without a carb the guy was having the same problem so he sent the carb away to get checked out and low and behold it got lost. He waited the summer to see if it would show up but it did not. He got mad and bought a new bigger one. Any ways i am waiting on a new one. Now in my reading these problems i discovered that the fuel line coming out of the tank to the carb is lower. Might be somthing to look at. JIM
